Alfred, i can understand your thoughts, but i had the same skepticism, until i looked at things in a bigger picture. We live in the 21st century and the difference between now and 100 years ago, is we didn't have the kind of technology then to serve mankind.
Today we have cell phones, computers, the internet, cars, planes, hd tv's, robotics, and so forth.
People are happy where they are, but the great majority of people are not, the idea of ownership does not make someone happy, owning 3 cars and 2 houses will not keep someone happy forever.
Today we are killing our ourselves as a slow death, we are hurting our children and our grand children, by living in our state of Consumption.
There is no such thing as socialism, communism, fascism, or any other ism.
Today we live in Consumerism and that is all we are consumers. It's worked for awhile but it is getting old and boring. Most people would like to live out they're dreams, explore new lands, explore new planets, explore new relationships, and Live for once instead of sitting in front of a screen for the rest of they're life.
The planet also needs so much cleaning up, and we can't continue our ways until we begin to see the entire planet as one living breathing organism and we are part of that one big organism.
Life is about living at our greatest potential not by living as slaves, and playing video games, watching movies or watching sports. We as a race Deserve So much more better than this.
I'm a huge geek and i always dreamed that our civilization would live like in STar trek, by joining a federation and exploring new worlds and far off galaxies.
That is my dream, and it is becoming a reality but not fast enough. WE have to change our ways and how we see the world, we have to change how we barter, trade, or commerce with one another. We have to do it in a different way.
The Venus Project is not perfect and Jacque Fresco says this himself, it is just something way better than what we have today.
And like you said we are in a state of Constant Evolution all the way down to our dna, and to our structures of society.
While I love the idea of the Venus Project, I doubt it would work. The society that we live in today hasn't always been as it is now, it's constantly evolving and shaping according to how we live.
I believe that society is always at it's best, according to the people in the world. If you'd look back a few hundred years you'd find that kings ruled countries, something that seems distant and in many cases absurd to us today. How could they allow a king to make all the decisions, why didn't they revolt? Why didn't they just start a revolution and use democracy instead? Well, democracy is a rather new invention. Sure, it was used in ancient Greece, but I'm talking about the democracy that we use today. I should also mention that the French revolution was an example of how the people could revolt against the king.
However, should you ask someone that lived a few hundred years ago, who's life was ruled more or less by a king, that someone would most likely laugh at your idea of democracy. Voltaire for example said that the people shouldn't be allowed to rule a country since they were too ignorant and barbaric, something that most people today probably would disagree with.
What I'm trying to say is that our society isn't going to work unless we want it to. If we, the people would just stop everything we're doing and say that we want to change the foundation of our society it would happen. I think most people are happy with our society even with its problems. Winston Churchill once said "It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried.".
Just my take on the subject, feel free to prove me wrong. =)
Still some people don't understand what he is talking about, because we all are so caught up in our daily lives.
this man is such an Inspiration and i hope that many millions of people listen to what this man has to say.
The world needs more people Like him
