Windows 7 Beta: Getting A lot of Attention

Microsoft’s new Operating System is slowly on its way and with that they have released the beta version to download for free to the public to test as most of you already know. Many have blogged about it already and have put in their opinions. In case you aren't sure of how to download the beta to test the OS, here is what you have to do. You need a Windows Live ID which is free to get, in order to get a product key's website and then go the the link below to download the OS. I have heard mixed reviews so far. Some have said it’s really good and a much needed improvement from Vista and others are saying there are drivers missing and its not that good yet. It’s understandable if it wouldn’t be that great yet considering it’s only available in be at this time. If you want to download the beta version, here is the website:

I’d have to say after giving Windows 7 a try in a virtual machine, it is definitely a better upgrade from Vista, but still too soon to make a complete judgment call. I like some of the little add ons like the “dock” that kind of does what the Mac dock does, just not to the same level. The speed difference I definitely notice and once the actual version is released on the market, the improvements will get better. The only problem is I can't get audio when I try to watch a video from YouTube. My audio works fine with XP, since that is my main OS, but it's not working in the virtual machine. If you know a solution to this, check out my discussion post: http://geeks.pirillo.com/forum/topics/audio-problem-in-windows-7

Hello Frank,

I also got windows 7 a few days ago, on my virtual machine. I noticed that it wasn't that fast as some said, and after a few, it stopped working so I had to restart it. The new taskbar is ok, in my opinion. I'm wondering how much will microsoft charge for the final version. By the way I got the 32 bit version.

Cheers

Okay, why is everyone commenting on the cosmetics. How's the permissions? Is an administrator actually an administrator now? Do I still need to right mouse click when I install something? When I do that will I be able to uninstall it later? I could care less about the taskbar and other visual options. Is the core better?

I have installed the version released to IT and vendors , I must say it is much better than Vista in my opinion. Though this is early beta I am very pleased with the ease of install and footprint size on the hard drive versus Vista. I look forward to buying the final release version of this next OS from Microsoft. A fresh install had 35-38 processes running if I remember correctly. I will also add that a friend of mine has been trying out games to see if they work with Windows 7 , so far only one he's tried has not worked. (Sorry I don't know which one)

*Cymon: Very good point - I will be hooking WIndows 7 into a Small Business Server 2008 install soon and will soon see what fun happens.

Vista was fast when it was a new fresh install. Windows 7 crashes on two of my machines without installing anything else plus it doesn't recognize some of my hardware that Vista did.
Except for the easy install it looks like everything else went backwards.

I feel soo left out. Usually I hear about a new OS about to come out. But because i've been on my own for almost 2 years now with no Corporate ties. I'm not updated.
