When you choose to click that “Follow” link do you do it randomly? Or do you only follow people you actually know? Maybe somewhere in between? It seems like some are out there to get as many followers as possible and then bombard their followers with advertisements and selfless plugs. Is this you?

Twitter is a great place to network not just for business, but for fun. There is so much more to Twitter than posting your thoughts, it’s there so you can see the thoughts of others too. Twitter helps people from all over the word answer that one question all friends ask each other, “What are you doing?”. It’s a simple question, but to those who take an interest in your life it can really mean a lot to be able to keep up with you and what you are up to. Through Twitter, you can easily make new friends and develop relationships if you just put in a little effort. I love meeting new people and I try to follow everyone who is following me, with the occasional exception of “that guy”. Twitter is doing a pretty good job of dealing with those shady fellows.

I have my own system through which I choose my new twitter friends. But how do you do it? I think there are a lot of equally good ideas on how to choose your Twitter friends and I’d love to hear them, Just post a quick comment and tell me how you follow.

I follow a bunch of girls that run the girlsentertainmentnetwork.com, and some random women I thought looked cute. Otherwise, I follow a few organizations such as Starbucks and Mensa, and some celebrities like Greg Grungberg and Brea Grant from Heroes.

I just get depressed when I have 44 followers one day, and only 40 the next. I feel like I was overly boring that previous day or something. =P

I am careful who I follow, because I do not want a constant stream of updates about what someone had for dinner or what random person they just saw. I mostly follow people who have a blog/youtube site that I check frequently. I try and be just as respectful to my followers in return! My twitter is DLB1752.

I follow/have followers with similar interests - be they business, hobbies, environmental, etc. I also follow/have followers who want to learn different things.

I've figured a way to "qwit" the ones who just follow, then unfollow, for numbers. I've also noticed a surge of "dating" or "porn" follows. Those are easily blocked.

Hi Lamar

The LICK was just an old inside diddy. Some friends and I used to be active at now-gone-forever community called theglobe.com, at which we would *smooch* and *lick*. Really tasteless and cheesy,I know.

We was just havin' a little fun, hee hee :)

I currently follow George Takei and Ashton Kutcher - and that's it for celebrities. The remainder are a few of those that follow me and that's after checking their Twitter profile, their tweets, their personal/business site.

People follow my twitter cause I update status of High Altitude Ballons fom DePauw University in Indiana. I do wish multiple people could update the same Twitter account so others in the group could put updates out on the balloon launch as well, but I don't think twiiters has expanded to this concept yet. I hve only selected to follow podcasters myself, none of my "friends" are on twitter.

I follow my favourite podcasters and webcomics (Mur Laffert, Scott Sigler, Scott Johnson, Obsibian Abnormal, Steve Eley, J.C. Hutchins, etc).
I follow people who participate in some of the same forums or podcasts that I do.
If someone follows me, and they seem interesting, I'll follow them back.

I only follow "Celebs" if they seem interesting, and willing to interact with the Twitter populace (Stephen Fry, Wil Wheaton, Brent Spiner, etc)
