I love Geeks. I love how you're passionate about the things you're into. I love it when you talk Geeky to me and when you have a strong handle on the English language. I love it when you can keep up with my banter, sarcasm, and play on words. And when you get my obscure Geek references. I love your brains and how intelligent you are...how contemplating the inner-workings of the mind is as normal as contemplating what to eat for lunch. I love how you love to learn. I love how you'll watch all of the Alien's movies or LOTR's movies with me in one long stretch. I love how you watch cartoons with me on the weekend. I especially love social and multi-geeky Geek boys who Geek about a other things plus tech.

And Foodie Geeks...you have a special place in my heart.

On the other side of things, there are some surface things about some Geeks that lessen my love for you. Here are some tips that can help. Some girls may disagree with me on some of these so if you're with one of those girls, more power to you, but if not, maybe these tips will help.

  • Open the door. Open it for all women. Open it for the disabled and little children and people with their hands full. It's common courteousy. I do it too.
  • Be confident. Not aggressive, not defensive, not a know it all. Just know who you are and be comfortable in your own skin.
  • Take a shower and use deodorant. If you doubt that you smell, use deodorant anyway. See Chris Pirillo's vid.
  • Wear clothing free from gooey crust, stains, and holes. - Seriously. I was working at Pax one year and turned to see this guy with gooey crust all down his shirt. I don't know what it was, I don't want to know, but EWWW.
  • Shave. You can rock the unshaven look, if you want, but if you want to do it well, you need to do some shaping and trimming. Make it look like it's natural, but not scruffy.
  • Manscape. Yes, I mean down there too.
  • Pluck the unibrow. See Chris Pirillo's vid.
  • Move out of your parent's house. - I get the transition thing. Makes sense, but transition should really be a year or less. Or at least have a plan that you're really following.
  • Have a good bed. If you are sleeping on a futon, twin or full bed, or a loft bed and you're over 21 or out of college, please go to Ikea and buy yourself a Queen or King size bed.

That's most of the surface things that make me love you less. I'm not speaking for all girls here, but I think a lot of Geek girls will agree. Geek boys, if you're reading this and have specific questions, please ask. :)

I realize you're just being kind and benevolent, but you are wrong about opening doors. Many people do not like having doors opened for them. I, and many of my disabled friends, absolutely hate having doors opened for us. And, I am also disabled (L4-L5 Cauda Equina, wheelchair/cane user).

One of my friends has an assistance dog. This dog does everything for him. But, he has to make sure that the dog continues with her duties, or else she will forget and stop altogether. He is a C4-5-6 quadriplegic. The dog opens doors for him. If someone else opens the door, the dog doesn't get the chance to practise and forgets how.

In my personal experience (living as a paraplegic) it is usually much easier to just get the door myself than to navigate through the door while also trying not to hit a person. Plus, the more I do it for myself, the easier it gets. And, the whole "hold doors for the disabled" seems demeaning. Having some random person, both arms full while pushing a baby carriage, suddenly run over and "open" the door is like saying, "I might be overburdened, but I'm still better at this than you." And, if they're not overburdened, it is still a blow to the psyche. The casual, "I'm going through this door and it's already opened, so I might as well hold it anyway," maneuver isn't so bad. Still, many of us need to do stupid little things like opening our own doors just to hold on to the little bit of independence we have left.

If you want to open a door for a disabled person, ask them if they want the assistance before even touching the door.

1. Of course! $230 Futons only. The first futon I bought was $60. BIG MISTAKE... I was eventually sleeping on an iron frame. It actually worked very well for a bed frame though.

2. Of course! Though the problem I usually run into is that I have a very odd beard. Some days, it puffs up and looks as though I'm Abe Lincoln, other days it behaves. But I have found that scissors, like you said, really do help, and then a buzzcut hair trimmer. Set to about 1/4th an inch and your good to go. ^^

3. It has an imbalance issue. The place that I bought it from replaced the rear brakes and the rear brake housing, so whenever I ride I have to be very careful when stopping and riding above 30MPH. I wish I could invest in a leather jacket, however, I can't find any in my size locally, and I fear I may end up ordering a cheap "leather" jacket, which is really just tri-layered pleather. Also, when driving in Alabama, you most assuredly, 80 of the time, will be behind trucks with tattered mudflaps, thus it is 99.9% impossible to not get hit by gravel. >.< Word of the wise, don't drive in 'bama.

Again, thanks for the tips of the list, I'm sure there are others out there that would love more insight into the, as the internet puts it, "vast, unexplored planes of knowledge, intellect, and 'whoopyorear' know as the female psyche." ... whatever that means. :P Just kidding.

Now, I wonder if there is a blog out there about room style "dos and don'ts". :P

Hi Darwin,
1. I lived in Japan. Futons are ok if...you air them out, keep them clean, and change them when they get too lumpy. Futons that stay flat like a bed are best. Go higher end, nice rather than the 10 year old Craigslist $50 special.
2. Keep it clean and trim. I like beards and mustaches too, but I don't want to see what you had for breakfast and a pair of scissors aren't expensive.
3. :) If you're falling that much maybe you shouldn't be riding. If you're getting holes from flying gravel, don't drive so close to the other vehicles. ;) I used to ride motorcycles. No holes in my leather jacket or jeans...except from when I slid out on gravel. If it's your "style" own it. You're a moped rider...that just comes with being a rebel like that. :)

Seriously, a lot of this is also your 'tude. But recognize that there's a fine line between "style" and being unkempt. Wolverine's hair style is a bit crazy and he's the definition of scruffy, but Hugh Jackman owned it in the movie and it was HOT.

With that said...I have to see anyone own crusty goo down their shirt. I could be wrong, but I'll have to see it to believe it.

Good tips for guys, however, what would you suggest for the men that:

1. Like futons? I mean, come on... they are cuuuuuummmmffffyyyyy. ~_~
2. Can't shave. (Skin issues/shaving issues/bumps/scars)
3. Have holes in their clothes for legit reasons? (Hey, riding a moped is, as the internet puts it, "srs bzn.", which I have to assume means serious business, and I have to say it's right! Most of my shirts have holes from falling or taking gravel from trucks/cars/ect.

By the way, most of those questions are just jokes, but seriously, those are some good tips to follow, and should be applied to most situations regardless of if your looking or not. Thankies very mucho! ^_~
