What more do you need from a media player other than just.....work? VLC works, in fact, it works well. VLC isn't something too out of the extraordinary, it is just a media player that works. So what makes it stand out? The answer to that would be because it works! In case you don't know, most of the media players out there don't work. They won't play all the different codecs. VLC is just a media player that plays all the codecs. That's all you need from a media player......play your media! And, that's what VLC does, it plays your media. So check out if you haven't: VLC website.

My favorite combination with VLC is the K-Lite Codec Pack. Together this is all you need on a fresh Windows installation in my opinion.

The only thing that I don't like about VLC, is the fact that it's music player controls suck. I would much rather use iTunes or something like that instead of thier music. The video though, is top notch.

I have to agree with you. I mean you can have all of these big name media players like Quicktime and Divx and stuff, but when it all boils down, it's what plays your media the best, not the extra feautures and stuff that really don't matter. I totally agree with you. It's my main media player.

Yeah, I <3 VNC too for its ability to play all those annoying weird file types on my Mac or PC (or Ubuntu installation) without having to search for codecs and all. I find it funny that my QuickTime Pro wouldn't play a certain .mpg movie file and VLC would... on the same Mac! I really think VLC could use a makeover, then it would be getting more attention from all the people who think the UI of an app is more important than what the app can really do. It's got the "what the app can do" part way covered, it's time for a makeover, VideoLAN! (At least I hope VideoLAN is still in possession of it... lol)

VLC sucks at media management. It can't keep a library like iTunes or Songbird. It has many advanced features but they are not user friendly. You relay need to be a geek to understand many of the advanced options. But VLC *will* play *any* media format you can imagine. That alone makes it worthy of my Applications folder. :)

my god I would die without VLC. I like how it can also play streaming, so if you're DLing a movie (legally of course) and reeeaaaaaally want to watch it, you can start it before it finishes!

I even use VLC in my home network. why buy many DVB cards when you can actually do same job with only one? i have server that has DVB-T card and it streams over network using VLC, and using VLC i can watch TV. THAT ROXX MAN. i actually love VLC. it has so nice(clean) GUI, but options itself are quite complicated(well average user don't have to modify anything) i even use VLC when converting. only thing i do not use VLC is for watching films, kuz subtitles are quite bad. but really good media player. good job VideoLan. keep up the good work. hope to see good subtitle support in VLC V1.x.x
