Hey folks! I have an old computer that I salvaged recently, I installed Ubuntu Linux on it. I have been using it for a few weeks (maybe months? Not entirely sure) and I decided that I want to upgrade the RAM.

Here are the specs (well most of them).

MotherBoard
Description: Desktop Computer
Product: Micro Star 7181
Vendor: Micro Star International
Version: 1.00

CPU
Product: AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 2600+
Vendor: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD]
Version: 15.12.0
Slot: Socket 754
Size: 1600MHz
Capacity: 3GHz
Clock: 200MHz

Memory
Slot: System board or Motherboard
Size: 1GiB
-Bank 0
Product: None
Vendor: None
Slot: A0
Size: 512MiB

-Bank 1
Product: None
Vendor: None
Slot: A0
Size: 512MiB

Ok, so here is my question. I want to upgrade this to more than 1GiB of RAM. According to Micro Star I can only have 2GiB of RAM installed in this computer and only 1GiB Stick of RAM per Bank (And there are only 2 banks).

What are the dangers of me installing more than 2GiB of RAM? Say 2GiB per slot.

Are the dangers serious? Could I damage the computer in anyway?

Thanks

This is the link that should take you to the MSI page for your MoBo and give you all the specs, The MS-7181 is listed as K8MM3-V

Depends. I know Apple Macbooks with too much Ram dont fry just the system becomes unstable.

But if thats yur only computer, I would not risk it, unless you do some research online.

Thankyou for the fast reply! So Basically I have to stick with the 2GiB option. I guess its enough RAM.
