It's amazing how fast your day can go down the tube. Last Friday was going well until my left foot found a patch of ice. We were in the midst of a pretty good snow fall, so I was out shoveling. I had to move my truck out of the driveway so I could get the whole drive. Anyway as I was walking back up the driveway...slip, twist, crack. OOOOWWWW. I twisted my ankle, as well as strained my achilles tendon. Let me tell you it wasn't fun at all.
I have never in my life broken anything, so I had no idea what to do. Luckily my girlfriend is in nursing school, and had a good idea what to do. I hate hospitals and doctors, and avoid both at all costs. When I was a kid my moms fix all was "pepto-bismo". I never really went to the doctor as a kid. Which puts a guide on the severity, I was actually considering the emergency room. In the end I ended up not going. I called a 24hr service number on the back of my insurance card and talked to am registered nurse. She told me based on what I was telling her that it wasn't anything to get checked out. She said if I did go in, they would tell me they can't do anything. I went the cheaper route and left it alone.
Luckily I had the weekend to stay off it. It's a lot better than it was Friday. I still walk like a gimp, but it doesn't seem to be anything worth worrying about. Hopefully by next week I will be back to 100%
