The World Unseen is one that is a little off the beaten track
Basically it's a lesbian love story set in South Africa and is in the period around 1950 when apatheid or racial segregation as the norm
The World Unseen features a lesbian restaurant owner who falls in love with an Indian South African housewife
Miriam [played by Lisa Ray] is the traditional married woman whose role is to bear children and be a doting wife. It would all work out well if her husband gave her a little more love and respect but with his finances spiraling out of control and his perceived concept of what a husband should be, he does not recognize the problems in his household
On a rear outing, Miriam visits a restaurant with her sister in-law which is co-owned by Amina
Amina played by Sheetal Sheth is a woman ahead of her time. Independent and openly lesbian, both women are immediately intrigued by each other when they meet. A strong attraction soon develops between them which is impossible to ignore and a taboo to acknowledge.
Although a lesbian movie and a lesbian love story at that, The World Unseen touches on other important and sometimes difficult to watch issues. Like racial segregation and psychological wife abuse
Must say I thoroughly enjoyed this film
