I remember carbon paper.

I remember the smell of the mimeograph.

I remember when the mail man delivered mail twice a day.

I know why we “dial” a phone number or “turn” it to a certain television channel.

I remember the fading “dot” when you turned off the television.

I used to draw against Matt Dillon in the opening credits of “Gunsmoke,” and won every time (of course, I was just using my finger, while he had a real gun).

I’ve illegally copied music by holding a tape recorder up to an AM radio.
… And that you used to have to push “record” and “play” buttons to get it to record.

I’ve opened and played with a new box of Lawn Jarts.

I’ve opened a can of Spam with a key (and tuna fish too).

I remember when milk was delivered to your porch in quart-sized glass bottles. Then they made half gallon bottles.

I’ve opened a bank account with one dollar.

I remember buying bottled sodas for a nickel.

I remember the ice-man carrying a block of ice up our steps with a giant pair of tongs for our non-electric ice box.

I know what a bank book is.

I remember not having an indoor toilet… and when we got one put in what used to be a closet. I was the first to use it but I was afraid to flush it. I had to have Dad flush it for me.

I remember the insurance man coming every week to collect a 12 cent weekly premium.

I know there used to be leaded gas.

You could only get watermelon in the summer.

Silver coins were in circulation.

I remember adjusting roller skates with a skate key.

I remember phone booths.

Crushing soda or beer cans took a LOT more effort, because they were made out of tin instead of aluminum.

When you returned soda bottles, they sent them back to the factory to get refilled… and you got your two cent deposit back.

If you couldn’t afford a color TV, you could buy a plastic overlay for your screen that was blue on the top and green on the bottom.

hihihi..
I remember my ATARI 2600 ! that seemed a NASA instrument to me and my parents.. just one thing: I've to try SPAM once in my life (here in Italy we don't have it, but it's often mentioned in movies so..I'm so curious..).
I lost my father when I was 13.. sometimes when I become geeky of some new Hi Tech item, I think what he would think about as he was very curious.. just like me
Ciao! Dario

Oh, I had a couple more memories!!
Remember the hair dryers our moms had. The portable machines with the hose that connected to the bonnet that inflated on the hair curlers with pink stick thingies! Ha! Ha! What was a portable blow dryer?
Remember this time of year when we all had to shop for our Easter attire for church on Sunday morning? A pretty floral or pastel dress, white stockings, patin leather shoes- WHITE -, and most important, our new Easter hat !!!! Oh, we were so pretty and precious in our Easter wear!!! Loved it!
I only had one sister, so I not sure about boys Easter wear! I bet somebody around here remembers!

And I do remember my grandaddy going outside to turn the antenna to tune a channel in better !!!
And so many of the other memory posts. I always have memories... I'll be back again !!!

I remember quite a few of these things. Plus, going outside to turn the antenna to tune in a TV channel a little better.... the National Anthem played just before the station went off the air for the night.... when we only had four channels (ABC, CBS, NBC, and PBS -- what a treat when they added the local independent channel!). On Tuesdays, all the movie theatres offered matinee prices all night. Boy, do I feel old now!

Oh, I remember the 25 cent gas!! Wait!! Don't we remember when you pulled into a gas station and gas
was pumped for you!!! And under your hood was checked and your tires and then the tank was full and you paid and drove off, saying how nice the guys at that service station were!!!
And we remember when the self-pumps started being built!!!
Us ladies had to learn to pump gas ourselves :-0 OMG!!!!
And then we drove to the Sonic and got that hot delicious hamburger, fries, and Sonic coke !!!!

back in 64.

@UncleJohn: "I do remember a song called "No Milk Today" *heh* Herman and the Hermits; came out in 1967 IIRC. Wow! You can remember from before you were born! ;-)

@SuziQ: "I remember when the Sonic first came to town!" And I recall when the very first Sonic began copying my fav hamburger places (Hamburger King--in the 1970s it finally expanded into one other location in the same town... after 30 years or so) burgers. Sonic's burgers are still the closest to a Hamburger King burger (though with less meat) that I've found.

I recall the XRay machines in shoe stores and NOT making "snow ice cream" for the first time one year because of fears about radioactive fallout from atomic bomb tests... and "duck and cover" drills...
