As a part of my plan to gain more readers and a reputation I am considering buying my own domain. I am sick and tired of the free domain http://ageeksopinion.wordpress.com instead I want to go for www.ageeksopinion.com. I think it will be more memorable and professional what do you think?

I tired asking my parents to see what they reckon, but I got shut down, my friends don't care all I need is someone to provide me with feedback and the only people that haven't let me down are my fellow members here at geeks. So what do ya's reckon should I buy my own domain?

you have no control at free domains, where as if you go independent the only thing that can effect you is an outage

You hit on a key word "professional" it sounds like you started out with a test to see how you would like and apparently you do. Now that you have a taste it's best to venture out and learn more nothing ventured nothing gained. Go for it!!!!!

It really all depends on what you are looking for. If you are generating a lot of traffic with your free name and you are not interested in making money with an ad program, then stay there. If you know you can make the money with your own domain, then go for it. Personally, you will be better off with your own domain because you have more freedom on what you can do, say what you want, etc, provided it is within the law. If you do decide to go your own name route, don't give up the freebie sites. I have a few sites I own (one is for my mother who does income taxes) to play around with a a few freebie domains that are just rant and rave stuff. I don't do the spam adsites, those things are ridiculous.

Hi James, I do have a suggestion; You could continue to keep using your wordpress blog and buy the domain name www.ageeksopinion.com and get that domain name Cnamed to your wordpress blog and use it for DNS masking. Although your wordpress blog is still http://ageeksopinion.wordpress.com it will show up in your URL as www.ageeksopinion.com. However you will need to contact both your nameserver & wordpress to see if they can do it for this for you.
If you start up a new blog/site with your newly acquired domain name and you want to drive traffic quickly I would suggest buying traffic at http://www.revisitors.com/. I have heard they have a good reputation.

Considering that many people are now accessing the internet via mobilephone and can increase a websites readership upto 13%, I would suggest checking you sites appearence here: http://mtld.mobi/emulator.php

Take a good look at the possibilities of dotMobi: It could play a large part in the future of the internet.

I probably will get my own domain soon, just because GeoCities is closing, and I don't want to move to another free service that may die next week.

is always best to have your own domain ...

but if you dont have money you can use the Apache HTTP Server Project , use your computer as a server , but also need a very good internet conection ... than you can find any free short url website.
