I find the idea of each "Geek" member to have "points" to be pretty male (and silly).

You never go to the Yarn Barn Forum or Makeup Maniacs * board to see all the gal pals there with "points".

According to my profile, I'm a

<-- What's the [0] mean?

I do like that my "creature" is pink and cute. Being an adorer of all things pink and cute, myself :)

What can I redeem these "points" for? Free Cheetos? Girly stuff? Ben & Jerry's ice cream for a year? A cure for Diabetes?

If it's none of those things... I guess I am not really interested in accumulating many more, for fear of losing my cute little pink creature.

Has anyone amassed a huge amount of these, and redeemed them? What thingamajigs did you acquire from your impressive pointload? Enquiring minds want to know.

This post totally makes me want some strawberry ice cream, now.

* yeah, I totally made those "groups" up just now. I don't think they are real.

Hi Rendered

No problem at all.

I wasn't aware of the extent to which others tend to speak without thinking first around here, and now that I look around, it does seem rampant. Kinda classless, really.

I'm sorry that people have decided to take it upon themselves to turn some parts of the community into that.

I accept your apology, and I look forward to your positive commentary in the future here, if you wish to contribute it. Though, given the serious tongue-lashing I delivered, I would understand if it put you off from wanting to do so.

PS - You are right... it is on the public home page, because that is one way to promote yourself here--by posting a blog, which appears on the public timeline of blogs. so that people know who's talking about what. But if you note that it says something like, "file under: Personal", that tells you straight off that it's someone's personal blog, though the dead giveaway would be that when you land on the blog post, it also says "Posted by: username - View username's Blog".

Hello again, FYI, your blog is posted on the PUBLIC home page in which anyone can read and comment on.
My apologies for seeing, reading/writing my thoughts based upon your words and anything wrong that you may perceive and disagree with. As for trolling, I guess you'd have to blame a large percentage of this community for doing much the same as well. That is what this place is. A community. I had no intention at any time of stirring up such negative commentary, anger and hatred.
Say what you will of me.

Best wishes to you and good luck

SOO sorry. Not.

1) This is MY blog here, and um...

2) It was meant to be tongue-in-cheek. If you didn't gather that, I suspect that you need to take a course on "Lighten-ing Up 101", STAT!

3) Further, if indeed I was "beating up the system" which, according to you, "Any dope can do" and it was on someone else's blog or in a community forum, which it is NOT, your points would be valid. But since it is MY blog post on my OWN page and not someone else's, basically calling me a dope and insulting my intellect is totally rude and offensive on your part, sir, and amounts to nothing but trolling.

As for your commentary on so many other blogs and other social networks out there, it appears to me that you might be well-studied in this area, perhaps even an expert of sorts. Given that, you ought to know better that trolling is an unacceptable behavior on any forum, social network, or community, and usually means getting banned.

And whoever said I was being unhelpful to the cause just because I decided to poke fun at the "points"? If I didn't appreciate the community that was built by "this guy" (he has a name. and it's Chris--not that we've met or anything), I wouldn't be here using it. Sure, it's helpful and a fun distraction/good way to network/shoot the breeze, etc., but don't think for one minute that marketing of his biz and advertising revenue doesn't come into the equation. I'm sure he benefits a little by having this up. Can't blame him for wanting to, either. I'd have done it the same way.

But I digress.

You would be well-behooved to keep yourself in check when responding to other people's comments on their own pages. Anything other than light banter/joking, or useful/helpful feedback when commenting on people's personal blogs/pages, is just downright tacky, not to mention very disrespectful, in my book.

Hmm,, not that the points thing means much of anything (it's just a fun little side bonus for me, and certainly does not keep me here).
I've been a part of this thing now for several months, I enjoy it's content. However, I can't help but notice that some of the words here in this post come off as being a bit bitter and generally non helpful to the cause. This was afterall created by a guy. This guy is trying to do whatever possible to keep us A.D.D. types interested from one day to the next. And clearly doing a good job of it.

In an internet world laden with more Social networking sites than you could possibly know, you have to offer as much content, gadgets, whatever to keep folks interested. I don't think there is a magic bullet, and I would say to anyone whom does not like any of the offered things, points, pic uploads, video, blog, etc, to find another one. There are more than you will ever know of. (sorry, rhetorical here) Speaking negatively of this does nothing for it's content.
This in fact is what I am sick of. The naysayers, that have nothing positive to add. If you can bring something positive to the table or a better solution, then please, please do so.
Beating up the system takes no skill, or intellect. Any dope can do that.

Sorry, unfortunately I am a male, and this nor my points certainly does nothing for my "&^%$" size and I will likely be beaten up here for speaking my mind. However the controversial comments and opinions in it are what drives this. Sincerely, "fence rider"

Best wishes all.

Aw, your so sweet! I love me some ice cream!

Yes, it's a testosterone thing. :D

And I'm not important on these boards, else you could have some ice cream. :D

I was confused by little geek creature too. I clicked on it. I was hoping I could dress it up or something. But it just sat there with this empty zero staring at me.

AH... I get it. Leaderboards. Typical male ego/penis size/machismo-measuring schtuff.

See? I told you they were silly and male. Only males would complain about shit like leaderboards and whatnot, LOL.

(don't get me wrong, it's cool w/me if they wanna do that, I'm not one of those feminazis)

But I STILL would like some ice cream *bats eyelashes*

The [0] means the level.

I liked the cute pink one.

And you get nothing for points. Except people complaining about the leaderboard. :D
