Download Our Windows 7 Tips!

Buried somewhere in your Windows 7 Beta 1 is a tiny program for those whom provide technical support. It's not readily accessible, and is not even properly named.

The program I am talking about is Windows Problem Steps Recorder.

It's a tool that records everything you do, and zips it into a MHTML report page. The report page is an XML document that shows you or the recipient that actions taken during recording. This allows the help and support to see what you are doing wrong; or at least see what steps you have done wrong.

The tool takes a snap shot of each mouse click, and records key strokes. Deeper use finds the X&Y coordinates of the mouse at each snap shot.

This tool has alot of potential and become a valuable tool for support lines, and even home based business like myself. When I am helping someone on Windows 7, I can instruct them to begin recording, walk them through the steps needed to fix their problem, and then if they can't achieve their results, I can see for myself, what they did wrong. Very good tool.

I was also thinking, this tool can be used for instructionals as well. Do steps, and then this will allow users to follow exactly what you did.

Microsoft, IMHO, is moving fast in the right direction with Windows 7.
