Download Our Windows 7 Tips!

I am new to the site, and was referred here by Chris.
He suggested that you all might know what to do ....Help!
My Macbook is about 3 1/2 years old...never any problems...NONE.
I signed on two days ago, after about 3 weeks after having just returned from
a trip. The Macbook was in the brief case for that time, ...started it up and
it asked me if I wanted to download an update...one of the basic programs on
my laptop and I clicked YES...(I forget which update!)
Since that time, I cannot get the desktop...it just 'hangs' (a term I have learned
recently due to this problem!) on the grey screen with the twirling circle under the
Apple logo.
The manual told me to insert the Disk 1 which I have done, but it does nothing.
Any ideas? I know that the possibility is that my hard drive is gone.....somewhere
I read that.
Any advice as to what to do, ie. professional in Toronto you can refer me to....
money is tight!...would be gratefully appreciated.
Fay

I just saw around here about a week or so ago somebody had a similar problem with an update. I think they restored to before the update using time Machine or something. It might have been member 'Johannes S', but I don't remember for sure.

You might just have some disk permissions knocked out of whack. Updates can do some wacky things at times. If you have your Macbooks, Tiger, or Leopard (whichever OS you are running) disk. be sure to boot to it, while you boot up, hold down the "C" key, until the machine boots to the set up screen. look for the disk utility menu in the top left of the screen. The Mac rumors guide explains the permissions repair process pretty well. i am sorry to hear you are having problems with your macbook and hope this helps to solve your problem.

you can also read up on Apples website about "permissions" and problems they can create when they get corrupted. Best of luck.
