The DMV strikes again. So I still haven't gotten my drivers license switched from NY to PA, but on Saturday my husband and I stopped at AAA so we could purchase a membership and get our car's registration switched. I purchased the membership...because, you know, clearly, I shouldn't be able to take care of my car's registration switch at the DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES. No, I should have to go through a third party. Okay. So the lady asks for my car title, check. She asks for my drivers license. Okay, it's NY. Denied! No, I have to have a PA drivers license before I can get my registration. I can't get my drivers license because I need one of my inlaws to come with me to prove my residence and the DMV is only open to do license switches on Thursdays between 8:30 and 4:15. RAAAAAAHHHH.

Okay. I've solved the problem. My father-in-law can take me on Thursday, but still. This is freaking nuts. I should not have to jump through hoops to get these things taken care of just because I live in rural Pennsylvania. It's bullshit.

Update: Now I have to find a piece of mail that is at least semi-official. I could bring a bank statement...except that I get e-statements to reduce paper waste. Damn my eco-friendliness!

mail yourself a registered letter and when it's delivered unopened, take it to DMV

Yeah. I know! Sometimes, we're damned if we do and others, damned if we don't. They should accept the online printout. It contains the necessary account numbers, right? *crosses fingers that things iron out sooner*

My favorite hoop to jump through: "Oh, you need to have this or that in order to get the thingamabob. Go down to whatstheplace and talk to so&so for a doomawhatzy."

Of course... had you known that you needed the thing in the first place you would have gotten it the first 2 times you were at that office!
