I pulled my mom on the Apple side of life...

My mom has no clue when it comes to electronical stuff, especially computers...the only things she can do, is playing Solitaire on a PC or buy things on Amazon ;)
Since I switched to Mac, and finally sold my PC in November, she came in touch with Apple computers.
She checked her mails on my MacBook, and I gave her her own account on it, so she was able to take it whenever she likes...
During the last weeks she got more and more interested in everything Mac! She asked me a lot of questions and just got a book called "Welcome to Mac"!
She never did that when she used my old PC...Yesterday, she came into my room and told me to order her her own MacBook!
YEAH! She gave me the freedom to choose the right machine for her, which was really cool!
I went for the white MacBook, 2.4Ghz, 2GB RAM, which sounds good to me...I didn't choose an iMac, because she likes to take it to the couch, which could be a little bit hard with an iMac ;P
The new Baby should be delivered tomorrow, because Apple sent me a mail, that they already shipped it!

I think it's great, how an Apple computer got my mom hooked!

My dad is a system administrator for the HM Revenue databases which runs mainly NT4 and some unix variants so he's a vary down and dirty PC geek. The idea of style and user-friendliness does not come into the equation for him so he will not be switching to a mac any time soon. My sister is generally scared of macs and has her dell laptop and my mum is almost completely computer illiterate so her old hp laptop is fine for her email and internet.

I got a mac because the visual experience is very important to me (I am a hobbyist graphics designer) and I'm an incredibly casual gamer (I can't remember the last PC game I bought). I've played around with quite a few linux distros (SuSE since v4, ubuntu/kubuntu, fedora, dynebolic etc) but I always kept going back to windows because they just didn't have the application support (photoshop, MSOffice etc). However, since switching to a Mac I have got to the best of both worlds: a great visual experience as well as application support. I could not be happier.

Comment by Pat on January 3, 2009 at 11:43pm: My mom and my dad are both PCs. My dad's work revolves around his laptop. When his old laptop broke he considered buying a MacBook Pro. But, he decided not too and kept saying you can't teach an old dog new tricks. My mom won't even work on my Mac if the family computer is broken down. She freaks out just from moving to a new PC even if it has the same operating system.

I wish I could get my Dad to switch to Mac. Unfortunately, that would be an impossible task.

My Dad lives in Georgia, while I live in Maine. My Dad's twin brother lives just down the street from Dad. My uncle uses a PC.

If I lived in Georgia, I might be able to get my Dad over to the Mac side. But it would be hard with my Uncle around to interfere.

Comment by tommy on December 31, 2008 at 4:31am: I would like to try tie Mac to feed my Geekdom,lol.But i'll admit i've never thought of a Mac when buying a computer.I guess i need to read more on why it's better than a PC.And dont want to hear it dont get viruses.I know the price is high,compared to a PC.That's one thing stopping me.I'am disabled and on fix income.Seems it's easier to get a PC.Well just my thoughts.I think,well i know i would love to run PC's Mac and even Linux all at same time.Just suround me with computers.
