Download Our Windows 7 Tips!

The Hp TouchSmart Pc is Windows newest computer inovation,The TouchSmart PC Has some bad things to it,let’s start out with the good things.Well First Windows has made the TouchSmart PC and it’s software very easy to use,But The price range is very high for a touch screen,i mean c’mon, Apple’s 24 iMac is the same price and it is way faster than the Touch Smart PC,But a good thing about the Touch Smart PC Is the the hardware other the the computer itself, like the keyboard and mouse, the keyboard is kinda taking apple’s slim keyboard, apple’s full keyboard which has 2 USB Ports in the side,But back to the Touch Smart PC,The mouse is also wireless Kinda like the iMacs mouse but that comes separate with the iMac,Anyway If someone were to ask me which one i would buy,I would say apple iMac hand’s down no competition between the two,the iMac would definitely get my vote,So guy’s and gal’s spare yourself the work and get a iMac.

Right now touch screen is seen as a gimmick unless its used on things that have a very simplistic interface or where space is limited. It's great for things like tills or specific use machines (like you get systems in public for making calendars from your photo's and so on). In a desktop every day environment though I think it's a little TOO simplistic though. Many apps have complicated sets of tools, so being touch screen would mean the buttons would have to be made larger and thus the screen space efficiency suffers big time as a conciquence.

It has it's uses, but the software will need a major rethink in terms of UI design if it's to take off in the mainstream on something as complex as a PC. Imagine using something like Photoshop with touchscreen? There's the issue of health concerns too with holding your arm out for exended periods of time too. With a keyboard and mouse you use a more natural pose and generally have some form of arm rest on most computer chairs so as not to put too much strain on your lower back.

I'm not saying it's bad, just that at the moment it'll need a lot more time to have things adapted for it to make it a viable system for every day use.

LOL great discussion guys. I think touch technologies have a long way to come before they are a good buy. I don't think apple will start adopting touch screens till 2010. But hey if HP can make something good, I say, go ahead. I seriously doubt it's a good buy yet though. HP needs to advertise this product a whole lot more if they want people to take them seriously.

Not to sound like an ass, but the touch screen has absoutely nothing to do with Windows itself, or Microsoft. It's simply another input device and HP have written drivers for it that allow it to use the touch screen hardware. You can send your iMac to various companies who will replace the display for you and put a touch screen panel on so you can get the exact same sort of functionality. It's down to drivers and not the OS itself. If they decided to they could make drivers to allow this to work in Windows 95 but that wouldn't make commercial sense.
