I was just surfing the net and getting caught up on some of my favorite web comics and of late I have been really getting in to all things Steam punk (Good example Girl Genius). I like the look and feel (I mean at least for now the visually textual components) of the stuff. It's really caught my imagination and today I was thinking about making my own set of Steam punk inspired head gear specifically goggles. I am going to make them functional to so I can actually wear them and use them in my crafts and stuff. I want to add a special function so to them so you can lower two pieces down over the normal lenses and magnify whatever you are looking at this way if I need to do something delicate I don't have to go searching for my magnifying visors. Yea you know the ones the dorky things that look like a Gordy LaForge knock off. The things that make even a super geek like me feel like a complete dork because of how they look. This way they will look cool and have a function and if I design them right I could even have special attachments for them where they can function like Binoculars and even a microscope although not a very powerful one but still I think it might be cool(eeeeeeee I am totally geeking out right now just thinking about them). What do you guys think and heck if they catch on with people who have vision problems like me and do crafts maybe I can make and sell them :-) for a modest fee of course nothing to much. As I get strarted on it I will post my progress on these goggles and anything else that comes across my warped and rather impressive mind (that is if I don't mind saying so myself).

hehe, I've been looking into making a set of cyber/steam punk-esque goggles myself. I'd love to view your progress and end-result. Mine aren't really going to be functional, mainly for show, though i do have some odds and ends I will eventually be turning into a monocular micro-display, maybe that could be incorporated in? Either way, you should do a progress report, I'm interested in materials and results!
