Have you ever considered what heaven on earth would be like?

Computers would be faster because there would be no need for virus software.

There would be no spam because people sending email would follow the golden rule, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

There would be no predators looking for kids on the internet.

There would be no nasty language and rude behavior. Everyone would be considerate and unselfish.

There would be no need for jails. No one would want to do anything that would put them there.

We wouldn't even need locks on our doors. We wouldn't even need passwords.

Stores could charge less because the cost of security and stolen merchandise would disappear.

Taxes would drop as the need for courts, jails, welfare and even the military would vanish.

Jesus Christ told us to pray. "Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven."

When I was a young boy we used to say that prayer in the public schools. Since then we've been going all we can to go the other direction. You know, you're always headed one direction or the other. I wish we were headed toward heaven on earth. I think America's headed toward some hell. I don't think the recession is just about bad home loans. I think the price of bad behavior is placing a huge drag on the government and the economy. It's likely to get worse.

Generally speaking good behavior (honesty, integrity, hard work, courtesy) lead to prosperity. Bad behavior leads to poverty. Other people's bad behavior can even lead to your poverty if the government taxes you for jails, welfare and medial care to deal with the results of bad behavior.

We don't have to keep becoming more dishonest, vulgar, selfish and poor. We can always pray, "Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven." Then we can set to work living the way God wants us to.

rowdy rob:

Bureaucracy is the antithesis of economic growth.
The self interest of the bureaucrat is only to secure his/her comfy position.
They are like a melanoma cancer that grows & destroys the body that it feeds on.

We actually live in a Federated Republic and we are headed pell mell to national socialism or worse .
I blame both political parties.
heaven on earth for this boomer geek would be a fair tax ,abolishing the income tax and death tax.
A fair tax anyone who buys something would pay upon purchase.
Heaven on earth smaller government, individual liberrty and responsibility.
our Military should be allowed to defend our country without political restraints.
They are supposed to be the meanest toughest devil dawgs on the planet .They should be so barbaric that no one would want to mess with the USA.
Oh well one can only dream

Well, since the cost of the war in Iraq and the war in Afghanistan thus far total over 800 billion, I'm going to go ahead and say that these costly wars have an impact on the economy.

Also, those people with money do not spend their money. This is a problem. In Canada there was a "penny scare" where the mint had to print up a bunch of extra pennies one year because people were hoarding 1,000,000+ pennies in their homes as a "collection". If those people with pennies had recirculated it into the economy, there would be no need to print more, further devaluing the money of the time.

So, taking this as an example, if the rich people of the nation (and there are rich people in the nation) were to recirculate their wealth into the economy, it would probably have some great positive effect. Unfortunately, this will not happen if there is a recession. Once some believable person in power comes out and says "there is no more recession; we can spend again" we'll see the recession turn around. Stocks crash because people sell their stock. People sell their stock because companies report bad news. People also sell stock because they fear the stocks will crash, which in turn causes stocks to crash. Businesses close because people stop buying their products/services. People stop buying their products and services because they're afraid they won't have the money to do x or y due to the climate of the economy, due to the threat of job loss. People lose their jobs because businesses close. So, if those with money kept spending instead of pinching pennies, there would be an enormous effect on the economy and this "recession" probably wouldn't be a recession at all.

It is so simple!
A democratic society gives each member of that society, the 'FREEDOM,' to make RESPONSIBLE CHOICES within that society.

So! If I respect your freedom to make responsible choices and you respect mine.

There is no conflict!!!!!

It is more that about time that the USA the so call democracy knew that the words 'freedom, democracy' are abstract nouns with no meaning without an adjective or a verb.

So Obama's "Change" means nothing without a definition.
Just as 'freedom' or 'democracy'.

Without a definition it is all flim- flam.
Barnum and Bailey stuff.

Only the individual can and must be responsible for their own thoughts and feelings and actions.

No other person can know another's thoughts and feelings from moment to moment.

Therefore the individual must be taught from day one to be a responsible citizen, who will make responsible choices.

Choice equates to responsibility. Your choice, your responsibility. My choice my responsibility.

As simple as that

This is the primary responsibility of parenthood.

Having a baby is not a right it is a responsibility!!!
