It's true, some companies are coming out with gpu powered motherboards that's said to be 50% faster than a standard quad core. If you don't know what that is, cpu is called a cenral proccesing unit, and gpu is called graphics proccesing unit. Gpu's are said to have more running thread's and procces's which at the same time uses less electricity and creat low heat. For instance, Ati has come out with the first mini motherboard which is smaller than the intel atom, along with Nvidia. You Tube has video's of this new brain that's suppost to be hitting the shelf's in December 2009. I don't know the link but if you type in (computing on a gpu) it will show how new parallel processing happens.

what if they shrunk the GPU down to the size of a CPU? Imagine the hundreds you could plug in?

umm about the AMD ATi/Nvidia thingy there... I'm looking at the stickers on my laptop right now, and the processer is AMD, and the graphics are nVIDIA.... :s

Nvidia already has a supercomputer that uses multiple GPU's. It is called the Tesla.
