Geeks!

Download Our Windows 7 Tips!

So I started a Group. I know, I know, stand in line! There are more groups here about everything you can imagine. I am a cook who enjoys tech. I have for years. I also enjoy cooking gadgets, and have an absolute respect and love for good food.

I want to get to know all of you whom cook for your families, know your stories. Cooking nightmares, all of those crazy moments, that only a real cook would understand how funny or cool it is. I am also interested in those of you whom maybe don't share the same joy, but whom do cook for yourselves, no matter how simple. What do you love to make for yourself? Leave a comment, nothing is too weird when it comes to food.

Geeks are not just about computers ya know! I challenge you all to join.

This is obviously a challenge using my iPhone touch keyboard and now I'm 2 secs away from deleting that nonsensical post..

I'm excited about this new cooking group! my mom is a chef in her kitchen and spoiled us all. Now when i lived in nyc I ate out or ordered delivery everyday. I learned to appreciate a homecooked meal after 2.5 years , once I was around them I watched and helped. Now I can cook myself dinner and actually enjoy it. Especially since it's not my famous bacon or hotdog in a flour tortilla. Microwaved. :)

Let's see...

I'm a GUY - who not only cooks (and does so well), but bakes as well! As if being a Geek wasn't enough of an anomaly of it's own.

All I can say is that whoever invented the Slow Cooker is a GENIUS!!!

That thing has been a lifesaver - especially after a grueling day in the cubicle, or when they've just move you to a new shift for the third time is less than a month ;);)

My hopes are to see all of you in "the basement" sharing these great thoughts. I am a coffee nut (as it were) Julia, and could talk for hours about the different machines available out there. I love to go to Williams and Sonoma, and just gaze at the coffee machines.

David!! BBQ, yes, yes, propane is not for us. Charcoal is a great start, but some soaked Hickory, or Oak on it just adds to an already great thing. Thanks so much, guys, now it's off to the Basement...

I am a techie and I love to cook. One of my most famous disasters in terms of cooking came about a year after I had gotten married. I had decided to cook ham and cabbage and potato, Which doesn't sound that bad except they were all purple. The whole plate was a mass of purple. Not very appealing looking. Many years later it is still referred to as the purple dinner.

I have this thing about BBQs. Cooking on propane is convenient however food, I think, tastes better and the results are not the same when cooking on wood charcoal. I find that you have to use good maple also for the best results. The overall experience and smell of a wood fire is enjoyable.

Now this is what I am talking about :) But the roles are reversed. I am a techie that loves to cook. But I come from a long history of family cooks and I have been blessed that I was able to travel a lot and pick up things around europe and the carribian (can't spell tho).

I am creating a web site that will have a recipe section and it will just be sort of fun. It will have a couple of adds on it but for the most part, it will be site to share recipes and leave notes and comments like renderedcook has started here. But I have set this a tag to follow so lets compare notes.

I love kitchen gadgets, too. I use my digital pressure cooker at least twice a week, and I always notice what kind of coffee maker is used on all my TV shows and movies. Right now I'm using a Cuisinart 12-cup grind and brew with thermal carafe that is close to what we need, but the coffee is not strong enough in a full carafe. I could really use a giant lazy suzan for all of the small appliances.
