With word of Circuit City closing all of it's stores, liquidating all of the merchandise, I decided to drop by my local shop to check out the big bargains. Think again.

HDTVs were no cheaper than they were before, CDs/DVDs were only discounted a buck or so, computer monitors were still way overpriced ($249 for a no-name brand 20-inch !?), and notebook computers were the same way.

It sucks that my only local electronics retailer is bankrupt, and at the same time they've got no bargain-basement prices. Has anyone else found that Circuit City's liquidation sale is a big rip?

I only find deals on the internet then try to match them up with Chris Pirillo's Coupons. That is the only place where I shop, because I don't have any Tech Stores around here by me like Circuit City, Best Buy, Comp USA or Fry's Electronics. The only thing in the area is a small Radio Shack and a tiny Staples with gigantic prices.

About 2 weeks ago my local Circuit City stores had everything in the store marked down to 40%-80% off. They even had people standing out on the highway and exits with huge signs trying to get people to go make purchases. Only thing I needed though was some printer paper so i "stocked up" on that, and i bought the last 4 flash drives they had cause you never know when you will need them there Sandisk 4GB and they were marked down to $4.99 so I bought all of them. Other then that the store was pretty much empty.

Liquidators frequently raise the prices when they take over the store. By the time there are any real discounts ost of the good stuff will be gone.

Check out http://consumerist.com they have been doing a lot of coverage of the CC liquidation.

Just to note: liquidators have not shown up to the majority of Circuit City's stores to set the prices. Prices will be unique to each individual store as the liquidator's see fit.

It'll be a week or so before you really start to see price changes. But by then, people "thinking" the prices are lower might have already had their pick of the inventory.

I got a 6ft phillips HDMI cable for 15 bucks. Which I know is more than that because I paid almost 30 bucks for a 3ft one a few months ago. Also got Fable2 for 30 bucks.

Hence their bankrupcty. Circuit city to me was always a hodge podge. They forever seemed as if they were in a transistion, trying to figure out where they wanted their stuff to be displayed. I live in an area that has 3 of these stores in a 30 square mile area, and they all have come off this way. Their prices have rarely been competitive, and I can only remember a handful of times I specifically gone to them for a particular item, and this was years ago.

Poorly managed, and poorly thought out stores, leaves Best Buy as the local monopoly now. Oh, boy.
