Download Our Windows 7 Tips!

Mac users (and XP users) always say that Vista is bad, but Mac OS X and Vista are both great Operational System, every OS has your pro and cons, so, in my opinion, I will define the function of most OS:

Linux - servers and hobby OS
Mac OS X – Multimedia work and designers
Windows – Ordinary users

Now, the pro and cons of most OS:

Linux – Pro: safe and fast
Cons: hard for the random user, not so much programs as Windows

Mac OS X – Pro: Safe, fast, reliable
Cons: Only work in iHardware, but not so many programs as Windows.

Linux is a really good OS, works fine, fast and reliable, you learn a lot, and distributions are free (or almost), has a lot of free games, many times, better than the big company, isn't realy the OS for a professional, due to don't have a version of photoshop for Linux.

Mac OS X is a really good OS too, but only work in iHardware (Mac), that is expensive, iHardware is fast, reliable, it's more for professional use, due to your reliable and many professional programs available for Mac now, not so many games, but now, things are changing and games now have Mac versions.

Windows is the OS for the ordinary user, but for the professional too, is the platform that has more programs, professional programs and games, but, depending of the program being used, don't looks so professional, so, Mac OS X is better for professional use.

Microsoft tried to do a whole new concept of Windows when launched Vista, they tried to do a more reliable, fast and secure OS than your previously versions, and they did it, that's why Vista uses more resources than your previously versions, Vista has a batter look too, and Windows Aero is a whole new concept, with your transparency, give a really nice look to Windows Vista, one problem that most people say about Vista is your retro compatibly, due to the high number of programs to Windows, and each program with a different code, so it's very hard do a system that can have a compatibly with all programs, and Microsoft only make the compatibly work with the more famous or professional programs, Windows many time is criticized because of virus, spywares, malwares and all those threats that are spread in the internet,Windows is the most used OS in the world, so it's natural that is the most attacked OS, a hacker don't will do a virus for an OS like Linux due to your low usage in homes (but is increasing), make a virus is hard and take time to do it, so it's easier to do for an OS that has more virus and has more users over the world, now, even Mac OS X has virus, and a few time ago, was developed a virus that worked in Linux and Windows, so, no OS is 100% safe now.
To Linux became a OS with more users, is need solve two problems: the internal war of the distributions, many distributions for not too many users, the other one, is become a more simple OS for the ordinary user, the good side of Linux is that you learn a lot about all the things about the OS, but when you start using, is a little hard.
Mac OS X is a really good OS, but need to work out of iHardware, so it will became more popular, but a problem in it would be piracy (that Microsoft try to stop in Microsoft Windows), piracy is a real big problem over the world, not only for OS, but for CDs, DVDs, Games and many products, that's why Apple don't make OS X work out of iHardware, due to piracy, that would be impossible to fight against, to have some idea, from each 10 thousand copies of Windows Vista in china, only 33 is original, that would be a problem to Apple if OS X could work out of iHardware (Mac).

I would like to see what people think about.

I personally think that the professional OS platform for Mac and PC is really starting to level out. Adobe is cross platform, Mac got Garageband and PC has a big program as well, and Mac has iLife and PC has Office. I'm sure a superior an be pulled from each of them but I personality think it's a leveling.

I agree with Glenn but what about Google OS, if they ever make one that is. More than likely, that will be Open Source too, and also, if Google's G1 is good, imagine what the Google OS would be like!

I don't think piracy is the reason that Apple don't release OS X for every PC. There is no serial number or activation needed for OS X, you can install a retail copy on as many Macs as you like. it's why I always found it strange that anyone would buy the family pack for home use. Apple is a hardware company, not a software company. They make their profit through hardware sales and they know that even if you pirate the OS you're going to be installing it on their hardware. And once you've bought a Mac there's a higher likelihood that you'll end up buying more than one

Also as Chris states, its about the overall user experience. By controlling both hardware and software it's easier for Apple to make sure that everything works (most of the time). Microsoft's problem is that their OS has to work with everything. Open systems will always tend to have more bugs/issues than closed systems, it is not in Apple's interest at this time to go open.
