I am obsessed with creation in all of its many forms. From media such as music, photography, film, and so forth to writing, philosophy, illusion and other liberal arts.

Today I was thinking about my love for creating, producing media for myself and others to enjoy. I thought how many would say I am a very creative person, but I tend to disagree. While I do have many creative juices flowing through me, the way I create is somewhat limited.

For me to create I must first find a central idea or concept and then create or expand upon that one source. I suppose you could say I create point Z and then must create the rest of the alphabet in front of it.

I am unable to start at point A and then create the alphabet behind it, it is just something I cannot do.

One example would be this very blog post. I had my central idea of the way I create and then expanded upon it. I could not have just started talking about creation and then found my views or main point within the context of creating the post.

This, in my mind, limits me in what I can create or, at least, the steps I must go through for creating it.

I have blog ideas, book ideas, and many other concepts in mind but no way to create the rest of the alphabet, to continue the analogy.

So these are just my thoughts, how do you create?

The brainstorm in a creative process can't start with A and end with Z, but once you have your central idea (for example M) put M on paper or draft en write out the steps you need to go to A and Z.
After this you can have an overview from A to Z, allthough you started with M
(spreadsheets and mindmaps are nice tools for this)
It's important to see, underline the innovation and the inventive part of your creation.

Sadly, I have the same problem. I have great ideas, to me, but I can't really execute them. That is the real challenge in any creative medium. Sure, you can see the painting or song in your mind, but it takes an artist to make it so someone else can see or hear it. The main thing I've felt helps is to just do. Don't plan, don't force it, just go at it. If you want to write a story, just start writing. Don't care about whether it makes sense now, or if it's good. That's what drafts are for. If you want to draw something, just start sketching, and make sure your eraser works.

I express myself through music. Unfortunately I lack the talent to write my own. I just sing all the time. I guess in a way it is creating something. It's an outlet for me. I sing with my kids and is suppose you could say that I am creating music lovers in them. I love the isea of Starting with Z and working your back to A. I think it's great to know where you are going with something. I'd say you are setting goals and and figuring out how to get there. Stacey

I do a bit of drawing a sculpting.
For me the process of creating starts with what you have and understanding that there is no creating or destroying, but changing.

For me i feel like its the materials that are in control but it is me thats guiding them with suggestion.
