Download Our Windows 7 Tips!

Macs to me are nice, sometimes smooth running computers that can be pretty complex compared to the normal HP or Dell computer but once you learn how to operate a Mac/Macbook you will really appreciate all that it has to offer! All of the applications that I really need on the Mac/Macbook are iTunes, iChat, Safari, iMovie HD (It is provides more effects and better movie making than the normal iMovie, I will post a link to the site with a free latest iMovie HD download), Microsoft Word (Yes you have to but Microsoft Office disk with all the Microsoft downloads), Microsoft PowerPoint, Calculator, iPhoto, Photo Booth and my favorite GarageBand. I have been running my Macbook just fine with a free AntiVirus program called ClamXav and it is great and it's also free (I will list a link to the site where you can download it). So basically my point I'm trying to stretch across is that if you are looking to buy a desktop or laptop and you have around 1000 dollars to spend then my advice would be to buy a Mac or a Macbook.

You can download ClamXav for free at- http://www.clamxav.com/index.php?page=dl
You can download the latest version of iMovie HD at- http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/imovieHD6.html

Please comment and tell me what you favorite free programs are, favorite free downloads for Mac/Macbook and lastly your favorite computer or operating system.

I have a MacBook with OS 10.5.5. I like iLife (including iTunes) and I like Time Machine Backup. Apart from that there is nothing on the Mac that Ubuntu (or any other Linux) can't do. Gaming is limited on both platforms. OpenOffice is just as good as iWork or Microsoft Office and supports Microsoft Office formats. Firefox is an excellent web browser. Ubuntu has built in VNC and samba file sharing support. Evolution or Thunderbird are just as good as Apple's Mail. Gimp is not as powerful as Adobe Photoshop but it gets the job done. VLC is a great media player that will play any format. and in conjunction with the right video card Linux's Compiz-Fusion adds the best and most functional eye-candy available on any desktop platform. A MacBook plus an office suite plus a paint program like Photoshop will cost over $1000.00. Ubuntu and all it's programs are FREE. Something to think about.

I can see your point but for me I don't really follow the complex software/hardware things I like to keep with the programs that I can use in a couple clicks (that is for now) until I become more experienced with the more intense programs. But you do make a good point, iTunes does freeze but it provides good quality music and video for the iPod.

$1000 to blow?

Well, there is (supposedly) going to be a price drop on October 18 down to $800 for the cheapest macbooks.

Personally, though, a macbook just is not worth it to me. Even if I didn't game. I like to customize my hardware every now and then. With macs, not only is it that harder to do, but is a lot more expensive. Also, macs just seem a bit too "kiddie" to me. It's too simple, and not enough support for it. If I got a different OS, I would get linux mint or something similar. It's free. Also, I think iTunes is one of the shittiest media players ever made. I cannot count the times it has crashed on me (not to even mention the times it just freezes up, or just stall for an incredible amount of time). And it ships with quicktime.

Oh, and the macbook pro has a pretty serious design flaw they have been trying to keep contained for quite a while now. The cd slot area of the casing is very weak, and caves in (mostly if you just hold the case with one hand near that area). Which to me, would happen quite often.
