They are not truly in competition. At it's soul Apple is a hardware company that makes software for their hardware. Microsoft is a software company, (except for Zune and 360) But it is my opinion that Apple users tend to be happier with their stuff than Windows users. Just an observation.

That wouldn't work, because they have different ideologies not only from the software or business model, but from the "core" that drive each company. Microsoft doesn't care much about velocity, or the nearly impossible requirements they impose for their OS, _MS only cares about businness. And Apple is more focus on the user experience, from the design, the "community" of users and their individuality.

That could be the worst thing to happen with apple, and to us too, with the eternal fight (for now) of this two big fishes they must develop better software to compete with each other. Apple has a different point of view in design and windows has a different point of view of software, so if they merge always will be someone else waiting for take control of the competence like Google.

Hahaha, thats like wanting to merge Google and Microsoft. Wouldn't work!
Google like producing great products for free and Microsoft like producing bad products for money!
