While writing my autobiography the other day, it kind of sparked old memories. Remember how I mentioned that I started off learning about computers with flash, from Craig Campbell. Well it kind of got me thinking; I was still subscribed to his newsletter after all the years but every time I got new mail from him I would kind have just reflected it to its own folder without reading it. This is because he got to a point where he stopped giving those awesome tutorials in his videos. But today I checked my mail and saw a newsletter there. This time I decided to read it, he was giving away a video bundle just for filling out a survey of his! I was stoked! So I filled out the survey thoroughly even though my ulterior motive was to get to those free vids and spark my old memories. I filled it out honestly; I wish I could reply after the survey cause these videos rock! They are about Actionscript 3! Oh yeah I forgot, the whole reason I stopped playing with flash was because AS3 (Actionscript 3) came out. It was too complex and I didn’t want to go back to as2 because it looked old and dusty now that the new one came out. So my moral soon depleted and I just stopped and got into something else. But yeah, now I’m reinstalling Flash and I am going to start messing with it again. I sure wish though that he could tell me where he learns all this because I tried teaching myself as3 and it didn’t work too gravy. The manuals are so.....TOUA'ish (Terms of Use Agreement) like, it doesn’t make it easy, it doesn’t even try.

I’m just happy I’m starting now though that all my knowledge of as2 is wiped. Now I can start fresh without getting confused. My first project that I will hopefully finish is going to be: making flash containers for my digital art group. Since this site isn't that flexible.

I actually finished the news container, but i deleted my group. I just don't have the time, patience, and screen capture software for it.

I can one up you, cliffy...I fixed my first TV in around 1961. It was one given to me by my aunt under similar circumstances (it was black and white, of course), and there was a bad electrolytic capacitor in the fly-back circuit. I fixed that TV and watched it for quite some time in my room.

I got my first ham radio license (Novice) in 1964 when I was 12 and my General 6 months later. That was when you still had to take your tests at an FCC Field Office.

As far as computers, I was a late comer. I started with them in the early '80s, before there was Windows. As matter of fact, one of my favorite stories is going into a software store and seeing Windows 1.0 on the software shelf. I thought to myself at the time, "Oh great...another DOS shell" (which is basically what it was at the time).

One other experience I had was while I was in the Air Force back in 1970. The base's payroll department was very proud of it's new hard drive. It was a monster 10 MB, and was the size of a top loading washing machine. This was Langley AFB.

You youngins' want old tech memories? I've got the Granddy for ya!

My first successful repair was replacing the Horizontial Output Transformer in our 1970 model RCA vacuum-tube Color Television. I used a 100 watt soldering gun from Western Auto. The transformer cost all of $12, a large sum at the time considering my Dad was making a Union wage of about $3 an hour.

I remember him saying' "I'll be damned if I'll pay that TV shop another $100 to replace that thing again after they just replaced it a couple of years ago!" I asked, "Can I try to fix it Dad?" He said I might as well because otherwise it was going to the dump.

Imaging my thrill at 13 years old when I soldered the thing in, powered up the TV, and a beautiful color screen came on! And I was able to watch the TV premiere of "Dirty Harry" that Friday night IN COLOR!

The Acorn computers were cool. We had those at my primary school. I somehow accidently formatted the harddrive on one of them. I don't think the school ever found out who did it. It still booted fine, but showed the HDD as being blank when you went into it.

I started off using computers when I was 5. The very first computer I used was an acorn computer in school. Good times.
