I have in the past written an article of my 5 favorite games and decided it was time to revise that list and do a review on something other than a game. I got the perfect chance to review the app, Midomi.

Midomi is an application which can record 10 second clips of songs on the radio or computer and search its data base for a result. It usually has a high percentage rate at finding that particular song which you were looking for. However there is always an exception as in the case when you try to look up any classical music or foreign music other than english pop.

When you look up a song it is presented in a list which you select from. On this menu you can listen to a 30 second pre recorded clip which helps you clarify whether this is the right song. From there you are taken to an interface which a variety of options. You can click on the youtube link and view a video clip of the song being performed and played by the band a.k.a music video. You can also click on a link which takes you to the itunes store on the iPhone. From there you can buy the song which you may not have. It also gives you album and artist details, along with a book marking button.

Besides this major feature you can also hum the tune and the iPhone will be able to record it and Midomi will search its data base for any results which slightly resemble. I have tried this with many songs and had a surprisingly high success rate. However if you don’t follow the tune strictly then it may confuse the app.

Another great feature is the fact that a lot of the information and recording clips are done by users who use this application. This helps improve the service while encouraging a community to develop. This is especially useful when you like up a song that is not in english.

One of the major faults i found with the service was the recording part. it is hard to make it perfect as there is just so many songs, however i would like to see more classical music added which would greatly enhance its capabilities. Another problem i found was when i recorded anything for a search though the data base, i had a higher success rate when recording the middle rather than the beginning. While this is acceptable i would like to see more support for the overall song.

As you can see i am very fond of this app and rate it 5 out of 5 or if possible more. It is a great efficient app that gets the job done. Plus it is also free!
