You call me "Cracker", "Honkey", "Whitey" and even "The Man" and you think it's OK.

But when I call you, "nigger", "Kike", "Towelhead", "Sand-nigger", "Camel Jockey", "Beaner" or "Chink" you call me a racist.

You say that whites commit a lot of violence against you, so why are the ghettos the most dangerous places to live

You have the United Negro College Fund.
You have Martin Luther King Day.
You have Black History Month.
You have Cesar Chavez Day.
You have Yom Hashoah
You have Ma'uled Al-Nabi
You have the NAACP.
You have BET.

If we had WET(white entertainment television) we'd be racists.

If we had a White Pride Day you would call us racists.

If we had white history month, we'd be racists.

If we had an organization for only whites to "advance" our lives, we'd be racists.

If we had a college fund that only gave white students scholarships, you know we'd be racists.

In the Million Man March, you believed that you were marching for your race and rights. If we marched for our race and rights, you would call us racists.

You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange, and you're not afraid to announce it. But when we announce our white pride, you call us racists.

You rob us, carjack us, and shoot at us.
But, when a white police officer shoots a black gang member or beats up a black drug-dealer running from the law and posing a threat to society, you call him a racist.

I am white.
I am proud.

But, you call me a racist.

Why is it that only whites can be racists?

Kathy stated,

"People who rail against equal opportunity laws generally have not found themselves subject to discrimination."

Sounds quite sure of herself. Must be that non-whites and/or females are also clairvoyant.

Well for the record, I have been a victim of discrimination. Not something as outwardly apparent as skin color, but something that if revealed some folks can and will use to treat you as a second-class citizen And no, I'm not Gay (not that easy liberals, sorry!).

As a victim of the aforementioned discrimination, I don't wish that kind of treatment on anyone else, not even those with whom I disagree. But as my father used to say, "Two wrongs don't make a right". And affirmative action attempts to correct a past injustice with another injustice, pure and simple.

Kathy, that was the most ignorant thing I have heard in a long time. Are you serious?

Men -- specifically white men -- have held power (economic, political) in the United States since its founding.

Groups that hold power have no need to create organizations to help them attempt to achieve "parity" or to help them break down the boundaries to power. What they do need is a good mirror.

"White men" as used below references "white men in America." I'm assuming that "you" means all people with brown skin, but it conflates different types of "brown skin" and Jews, pretty amazing.

You have the United Negro College Fund. White (geeky) men have Microsoft scholarships.
You have Martin Luther King Day. White men have President's Day (George).
You have Black History Month. White men have American history classes (K-12, 9 months).
You have Cesar Chavez Day. White men have President's Day (Abraham).
You have Yom Hashoah. White men have Veterans Day _and_ Memorial Day _and_ the 4th of July.
You have Ma'uled Al-Nabi. White men have Christmas.
You have the NAACP. White men have NASCAR.
You have BET. Whit men have CMT.

White men also have the KKK and Skinheads and White Supremacists.

People who rail against equal opportunity laws generally have not found themselves subject to discrimination. Heck, when I was in my 20s, I didn't "get" the women's movement, either. That's when I thought that the only thing that mattered in the world was competence and intelligence, when I still worshiped at the alter of Ayn Rand.

Look at the US Congress: it is 87% white, 90% male. The US is 80% white and 51% female. Every president: white and male. White males rule, literally.

But white men had best take notice: whites will be a numerical minority by 2042, if current demographic trends continue. I doubt that white men will have lost their power base by then, however. After all, the wealthiest people in America are overwhelmingly ... you got it, white and male.

Final thought: folks who argue without facts ... merely spout off unsubstantiated opinions ... are simply blowing smoke.

Dillon,

Here's an example that was the last straw for me.

Let me preface this by saying that my 2 mentors in life (Mom and Dad excepted) were an African-American schoolteacher of mine in High School and a boss of mine who was a Mexican National from Mexico City, and was Jewish to boot! (he used to joke about the apparent oxymoron).

I don't have a racist bone in my body. I was raised in downtown Los Angeles in the 1960's and 1970's and lived in a very "Heinz 57" neighborhood where everybody pretty much got along with each other. We could even joke about our racial differences with each other a la "Blazing Saddles" type humor. But am I "prejudiced"? You bet your ass I am! I can and will "prejudge" a black man who walks up to me in a threatening stance wearing gang attire quite different to a black man who walks up to me calmly in a three piece suit. That's survival instinct, not racism.

Now once upon a time (early 1990's) an LA local station was airing "Back to the Future 2" The scene where Bif's gang throws Marty into the band's car trunk. The band guy hollers "hey what are you doing" Bif's guy says "beat it spook" and then all of the band members jump out of the car and one of them says "who you callin' spook, peck-a-wood".

Well, it seems that the station found it necessary to edit out the word "spook" and leave dead air. But the word "peck-a-wood" was perfectly acceptable to leave in the dialog.

If they had just left the scene alone, it would have been fine by me. But equality? Give me a break!

i cant disagree with a single statement here. ive said it before, im saying it now, and ill say it again - i hate affirmative action. reverse discrimination is still discrimination. how long will it be before we can "forgive" the descendants of those who wronged others? people need to stop making issues. just because there is a difference between 2 fighting people doesnt mean that it is because of race, gender, or whatever. WE. ARE. HUMANS. we fight. thus is the natural state of mankind and in the animal kingdom. its not great, its not pretty. but it is constant. if not here, somewhere else. again, that doesnt mean that it is because im white and youre not. i dont care about that, and i think youll find that most people dont either. the ones that do tend to be the ones who are getting offended FOR someone else.

so STOP reading into things like that. unless i punch you in the face and declare it a hate crime BECAUSE youre (insert something different than me), then its a hate crime because i hate you as a person, not that thing. thats right, a person. i dont know anyone who sees blacks or whatever as subhuman. am i wrong? ive lived in california all my life, and now im in florida for college. still havent seen that. am i so lucky that in 18 years, i wouldnt have seen racist acts if they are as prevalent as organizations such as the NAACP would have us believe? i think not.

again: stop reading into things. stop discriminating. stop getting offended FOR other people (they do it plenty well enough themselves). and stop f***ing suing everyones ass' for this stuff. its ridiculous. seriously!

You make a valid point, its an ugly part of our society, but its true none the less. Ive heard these same points made many times, but no valid self accounting from those who act in this way, as if they are without fault themselves. They hurt their own cause when they do these things, further perpetuating bad attitudes against them. Also we continually hear there are no opportunities for X minority etc. etc. - If so how is it we have so many successful minority races as millionaire sports figures, doctors, lawyers, businessmen, senators, congressmen, and now a presidential hopeful. There are more opportunities now in history for all minority races than have ever existed before, especially in this country. If that were not the case people of all races would not continually come here from other countries for an education, career and a better life. In some cases the minorities have a better shot than the white people. If youve chosen instead to prowl the streets in the oh so cool gangsta' world, throwing racial slurs at us, dealing drugs and commit crimes against innocent citizens, stealing lives and property, just taking what you want by gun and knife instead of taking advantage of the opportunities available on the legal side of life, then you have chosen to forfeit ANY respect you claim to deserve. If you want that respect you earn it by showing you are worthy of it by living within the system and its laws as a respectable citizen, and not a career criminal. And this goes for ALL races, laws are not written anymore for just a particular race, those days are gone so take advantage of whats offered, get the chip off and take responsibility for your lives and make something worthwhile out of the time you have. Until we stop fighting like kids in a sandbox this situation will never change.

AMEN!!! What Kissa said is right on... "Whites aren't allowed to see color, but everyone else can". When I was a single working mom, going to college... I often wondered where MY college fund was.

Sadly, there will always be prejudices: racial, religious, economical, and so on. No matter how much we strive to work together, there will always be those that continue to cling to what divides.

I have a similar problem, not between blacks and whites but more a historical problem. I am from a german speaking region, and due to European history some people think that German speakers are still Nazis. In that way we are not allowed to say anything without being accused for being racists. All i can say that History is over, there are no Nazis anymore, ok some are, but that doesnt mean that the whole country is a racist country. I find it very sad that some people stick too much to history. Same as with the issue between blacks and whites. I see people as humans and not as blacks, whites, asians, germans or what ever!
Kissa Comment by Kissa on October 19, 2008 at 4:37pm
I agree completely. Whites aren't allowed to see color but everyone else can.
