Hey wxjunkie!

Just wait until you have to return your IPod to an Apple store. I had to take my Nephew into Denver last week. The store looks like some boutique on Rodeo Drive. And you have to make an appointment to see someone at the "Genius Bar".

We arrived at the store at 1:30pm, and there was no appointment "available" until 4:30! This despite the fact that there were at least 30 sales reps milling around and that he had a return authorization from Apple after spending several hours on the phone with an Apple tech attempting to solve the problem.

The cute, smiley, bubbly young girl making the appointment tried her best, or was brainwashed to believe, that this method of doing business was going to be some kind of positive life-affirming experience for the two of us. She seemed to totally miss the ironic humor when I remarked that he wasn't there for a cat scan, but just to exchange his IPod.

When 4:30 finally arrived, it took the "Genius" helping my nephew less than 8 minutes to complete the exchange!

As we left I told my nephew that he should thank the stars above that he was privileged enough and lucky enough to be able to own an Apple product. NOT!!!

Thank God I bought a Sansa!

Thanks for the tip Frank. I'll check that out. I may need to buff the scratches that have already accumulated on by 2nd gen Touch.

For my iPod touch I use the invisibleSHIELD from Zagg. Yes, it's still something that you need to put on the iPod but I have found that it is amazingly durable and still gives me some of that shine from the chrome backing.

Well, I woudn't recommend using a hard plastic case. I used D.Lo with kick stand on my iPod Touch. When I removed it (and boy, that was a struggle!) to clean the dust and lint that got stuck inside the case, there are lots and I mean LOTS of scratches (more like dots, actually... as if my iPod got poked by a million needles) on the sides. A soft rubber case is still the best way to go.

Ohhhh!!! I like that idea! That would be soooo durable and then I could show off my iPod and not hide it under a skin! Awesome!

I agree. iPods aren't very durable at all, except for maybe now the new Nano since it has a glass screen. I wish I could buy an iPod and not have to spend an extra $20-$30 to get a case so I don't have to get it scratched. I bought a clear hard case for my iPod Classic, but it got scratched up so fast that it drove me nuts so I went back to the one I had before.
