At this point, the news is so good. A study was performed by Yahoo and the nine users who considered themselves to be moderately Internet savvy; was confused. They did not understand multiple ways to log in. Confused by the fact that there is no place for a password.
The Pros, it is convenient not to have to give your life history to log in to a website. You don't have to create a new user name and password. There is no need for email verification.
Personally, I can't speak to the usability of OpenID. I have not added it to my Yahoo account. I have tried using it. I am frequent on the internet and I have noticed the Open ID log in location on many sites. The question did arise: "What is this new log in?" My first thought was that this is some new service to sign up for and something else to keep up with. I have done a small mount of investigating into what OpenID is. I did attempt to use it once; it worked.
My thoughts are that I might one day use this service. I have two Yahoo accounts. I use one for what I consider my junk mail account and one for my legitimate mail. If this service will allow me to use the ID of my choosing; it could be convenient. Not having to input information into a long form on a new site. Choosing to use my personal ID or my junk ID. Today I can not say one way or the other though. I am comfortable and used to the status quo. Maybe one day soon I will make a less feeble attempt at testing out OpenID. Maybe not.
