I am a member of the Board of Directors of the Power Memorial Academy Alumni Association. Not many people may have heard of this school but most of the famous people that graduated from there were basketball players. Some of them are: Kareem Abdul-Jabaar (formerly Lew Alcindor), Lenny Elmore, Japith Trimble, and Ed Searcy.

Anyway, the school building was sold by the Irish Christian Brothers in 1985 and the last graduating class was in 1984. So, the students that were in the 1985 graduating class and any of the other following years were dispersed amongst the other Catholic High Schools in New York City.

In all of the following years until 1999 there were reunion parties held, but nothing really was actually organized. In 1999 quite a few of us got together and decided to officially form an Alumni Association. We even applied and received a 501c authorization as a charitable organization because we decided to sponsor two scholarships for one student enrolled in Bishop Dubois HS and another in Power's former rival high school Rice.

We also applied to, and were approved by the sponsors of the New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade, to march in the parade representing our beloved High School. Our group has been recognized every year since then with some kind of award for our reverent marching ability. You can see in some of my pictures how proud we all are. I am the U.S. Flag Bearer.

Anyway, we have accumulated many pictures and I decided to put a slide show together. The president of our Alumni Group had a CD of our old High School Band and Choir playing and singing so, I married the pictures up with the music. It came out great. I have over 300 pictures with the music playing in the background and then I burnt 50 CDs. I will sell these CDs at the Alumni Dinner, that is scheduled on October 25th, 2008 at Cathedral H.S. at 6PM, and donate the proceeds to the Scholarship Fund.

I am also bringing my laptop to the dinner and asked Cathedral H.S. to let me use an overhead projector so that I can play the slide show (to entice any purchasers).
