I agree with most of the names on this list, and some are just a given. But along with Steve Vai, Joe Satriani is a truly awesome axeman - in my opinion. He is incredibly polished, as is Steve Vai - lets not forget Eddie Van Halen, and the late great R&B talent from Texas, Stevie Ray Vaughan - But this is only one mans opinion. I think this illustrates a point, its very hard to claim the "best ever" crown, since there are various different styles of playing, and judging then becomes more a matter of personal taste. Roy Clark is probably one of the best country guitarists, but I personally dont like country. However, someone that does like country might say hes "the best ever" - just an example. I think one is almost forced to make a list in regards to a "best ever" guitarists. Theres just too much "A" grade talent to single out a one and only. I thought it might be fun to make a top ten list and banter about who should go where, but then you still have that same problem - who do you put as number 1-?? Its a quagmire that cannot be resolved, theres just too many deserving names to give anyone the #1 crown without shortchanging someone else. For any that havent yet seen him, Joe Satriani is pretty hard to beat, if you like his style -and here we go again-lol
