One downside of writing for a living is that I rarely have much gas in the tank for my own private projects outside of work. Every week I write at least two articles, each of which must be heavily researched. By the time I get home, I want to put my brain in "Park" and just relax. But I have several projects I want to work on. Some I've already started, and others I just have the germ of an idea. For example, I have a short play called BeMused that I need to finish (I need to finish that one really soon since I might get a chance to have it produced in January). There's a rock opera I wanted to write for a long time that's just sitting in the back of my mind. And I've got an idea for a thriller novel set in the tech industry. But it's really hard to focus after working on articles all week long.
Don't get me wrong, I've got a great gig. I love the fact that I am paid to do what I enjoy doing on my own. I just wish I had a little left over to get more done outside of my professional capacity as a writer.
