Download Our Windows 7 Tips!

Hello everyone,

I just thought I might tell you people about my stance on Windows Vista. I do not think that Vista was a bad idea. I just think that there was very poor planning and management on Microsoft’s part. When it first was released, there were far too many issues with stability and compatibility. When Vista came out, there had been no software that had compatibility. It was also difficult to find drivers that would work. This was especially true with older peripherals and hardware. I will tell you my little story with Vista.

I got Vista when it first came out, which was in February 2007. Right from the beginning, there were many stability issues and compatibility issues. I usually would at least get one blue screen from it a week. The first time that I ever had anything serious with it, was when it crashed about 7 months after I got it. I had just installed Microsoft Office 2003 on it, which I had borrowed from somebody. Not long after I had purchased Office Home and Student 2007. When I tried to uninstall the old version of Office (2003), it screwed something up with the system. After that, every time I tried to boot the machine, I would get a blue screen before the system even got to the Windows loading screen. It would get it right after the bios finished loading up. My dad and I had to reinstall Vista. Thankfully, this did not erase all of my files and folders. It just put them into a “Windows.old” folder. I was able to get all of my photos, music and other documents out, but this made all of my programs unusable. I had to reinstall all of the programs (at least the ones that worked on Vista). I thought that would be the only time that would happen. I was wrong. Several months later, it happened again. The system would freeze at the Windows loading screen. Thankfully, since the system was able to get to the Windows loading screen without a blue screen or anything like that, Dad and I were able to restore the system with the restore disk that came with my computer. I did not lose any programs or files after this second time. It also has happened a third time, but the problem was similar to the second time the system crashed, so Dad and I were able to restore it with no problem.

Anyway, that is my story with Vista. I personally think that Microsoft should have done a better job with Vista. The product had promise, but it just was not ready. If Microsoft had not rushed to get Vista out, it would not have seemed like a beta release when it came out. I will admit, however, that they did a decent job with fixing the many issues with updates, hot fixes, and Service pack 1. Vista now is much better in the stability and compatibility areas, though it still does have some problems. One more mistake Microsoft has made is with Windows Xp. They discontinued it in late June 2008. They should have waited until Windows 7 came out before discarding Xp. What this means for consumers is, if they (the consumers) have an old pc and want to purchase a new one, their older hardware and software will not likely work with Vista. Microsoft has also helped Apple out quite a bit with Vista. Vista made so many consumers angry with Microsoft that they either switched back to XP or moved to Apple’s operating system, OSX. I really am a fan of Microsoft, and I honestly hope they can make up for this with Windows 7.

DellMan94,

Although they've discontinued Windows XP you can always downgrade/upgrade from Vista to XP. I know this doesn't solve the problem as the majority of users are ignorant to this. Probably just about as many who could have fallen for the Windows Mojave gimmick.

Cheers
