Running an Ubuntu x64 system perfect for 2 Months

I've hit the 2 month mark since I installed Ubuntu x64 on my PC. A lot has changed, the look of the OS, the amount of programs in it, the hard drive it is on, even the hardware :P. Even still, my PC runs strong as it can, I'm just holding off until the coming day that my mac arrives. When my Mac does arrive, I'm not giving up in linux, after practically getting drowned in Linux trying to get Ubuntu x64 to work properly, I feel the need to dive in farther and further. That's why I've downgraded m… Continue

The Intel Celeron Wilamette (Socket 478) Fails at all Linux Distros

lol 66% CPU Usage Idle in Ubuntu 8.04, 78% in OpenSuSE 11 Gnome, 21% in xfce. Let's compare a similar speed of Pentium 4 Wilamette! (1.9GHz) 14% Usage idle in Ubuntu 8.04, 15% in OpenSuSE Gnome, 0% in xfce =.= Hmm... Anyway Ubuntu 8.04 AMD64 is running perfect and Epiphany browser helps with the flash problems, further improving on the special lib codec for flash :D in x64. Continue

Ubuntu x64 wins in speed and stability but EPIC FAILS after major system slowdown

All I can say is that it was working pefrectly one day and the next it waits about 25seconds before even accessing the hard drive. -.- (Filesystem or problems with the controller?) After sooo much experience with bombing, I'm pretty sure that it's either my motherboard or I'm just unlucky...currently researching the topic and STILL TRYING TO INSTALL PCBSD. *Grabs his Leo4All 10.5.2 Disc* Now time to research how to properly install a custom kext. :/ Continue

AMD64 = New Horizion? :/

As many wastes of time and friends Linux distros have put me through, I've still yet to try any of the AMD64 versions. Hoping for a better experience I'm downloading Ubuntu Hardy AMD64. (Wow, I'll never learn will I :P) Anyway wish me luck, as my luckiness with Linux distros and Unix-Like OS's are very, very slim. (Srsly, setting up a hackintosh was a little bit more successful than trying to get Linux to work in the same way. -.-) Continue

Obi-Wan Jerkobi's Purely Controversial Linux Rant

Ok, I love the idea of an open source system. I'd imagine since a lot of differnet people put it together, that they would know what was needed and how to make it run to the best of it's ability! A herd of a bunch of great open-source softwares at your fingertips! The idea sounds perfect! But after 20 different Linux distros tried, I still have not officially moved to Linux. The wired thing is that Linux is supposed to run better than windows xp or vista! That's what the creators believe and a… Continue

And So It is FInally Over

My fight with Linux over the screen resolution and drivers has come to an end :). It was solved by Albert Milone's program EnvyNG which simplifies the installation and configuration of Nvidia and ATi Drivers, and the configuration of xorg.conf :). He even gives extremely simple instructions on how to do it. Go here if you would like to try out this amazing utility. Make sure to uninstall your imperfect driver installation and change it… Continue

xorg.conf Woes

I LOVE LINUX. I love it all, I've had almost all my pc's convert to it. My grandma's pc has Ubuntu 8.04 LTS, my mom's pc has LinuxMint 5.0, I have a Dell Dimension E510 with PC-BSD 7, and after getting bored of Windows on my rig again, I decided to use the extra 30GB I had to spare. I decided to install LinuxMint 5.0, an OpenSource Linux distro based on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS. All had went well and it installed in about 20 minutes. But then after booting into the GNOME environment off of my hard dri… Continue

Google Chrome Review

If you don't know about Google Chrome, you obviously were in the Himalayas for the last 3 weeks. Google Chrome is Google new Open-Source based web browser. A surprisingly light, quick, and pretty browser that seems pretty stable, this thing is MONSTROUSLY fast. It beat Firefox loading 1up.com 5 times Java, Flash, and all buy a whopping 2.1 seconds for me. And it beat Opera 9.51(Don't upgrade to .52, it slows it down D:) at 1.5 seconds (Rounded values, mind you). This is a monstrously fast browse… Continue
