The beginnings of my IT career

About five years ago I started my first job in Information Technology. I was hired by a man who bore an uncanny resemblance to Dr. Evil from Austin Powers (no joke, this man was pasty white, bald, and even wore a gray collar-less shirt, he also had a PHD, but that meant he knew the book work, but not how to execute). The first five months of my IT career were a living hell. While I was hired to work on technical issues and help desk, I also was labeled as the department assistant, which meant I… Continue

wading through rough waters

haven't been on here in a while, been hectic, and very difficult times. my dad was admitted into the hospital and had to have emergency surgery last week. He is in ICU fighting an infection due to a ruptured colon, but as each day passes, he is doing better and better. we are hoping soon that he will be in a private room, and the after that, home for a lenthy recovery. here's hoping that things keep getting better Continue

how it went

well, yesterday was my interview...it went awesome. the only thing i was caught off guard by was i had to take a written exam, which wasn't bad, i missed too (and kick myself cause they were simple and i could not remember what they were, but they were impressed with the answers to the complicated stuff). it lasted almost 3 hours, but we were able to exchange alot of information between us in that amount of time. now its just a matter of waiting for the follow up interview (if i get it) Continue

Waiting on tomorrow

its only been two hours today, and thats all it took to remind me why i want to quit this job. actually it began yesterday. blackberry suffered from an outage, and nobody could get emails, its normal that they call me, but don't think for a minute that they were nice and understanding, i get the standard, "can't you fix it" no, because we don't host it, and as i recall, i was against using blackberry for this reason, unless we had our own server, or isn't there anybody you can call. yeah, i'm be… Continue

Feeling Good Today

Its been a long time since i've felt good at work. Mostly because today I got my Interview scheduled for a job at a techology solutions company. Hopefully it all goes well. The current company I work for screwed my wife over back in January, and even before that, I was tired of this place before and that was just the final straw. the only thing is i worry about my wife. she began working for a bank at the end of feb, and is putting so much pressure on herself that she is making mistakes. i tell… Continue

The Idea's Of Yesterday Are Not The Idea's Of Today. Part 2

Back in the day, in the small town that I lived in, the only internet option you had was dial-up. And the only local number was a privately owned provider. If you wanted to use any other dialup service, you had to have a dialing plan to call out of area, which was also new to the area. So like everyone else, I signed up to the service for about a year and a half. Well, seeing as how dialup was slow, no matter who you used, I tended to start downloads around bedtime, or updates if they were large… Continue

The Idea's Of Yesterday Are Not The Idea's Of Today. Part 1

I guess after ranting and raving and going political I figure lets do some real geek style blogging. I'm currently in the process of setting up a website, part of which will be a blog, and this will be posted first, so enjoy. In the local newspaper everyweek, there is a prominate business owner who runs his own opinion column. This man runs an office supply store and does cover basic technology needs (pc's, printers, copiers, etc). Well, for years this man has preached about the importance of b… Continue

Not a follower of the Obamessiah

Not trying to start arguments on here, but in all honesty, i do not like nor trust Obama. I feel that he has been built up by epic hype, and we soon will see epic fail. If you support him that is your choice, I just don't buy into his propaganda. Its easy to use words like hope and change, but we all know in the end he is a politician, and we all know that politicians are liars, cheats, and just generally dishonest people. So lets not all jump onto what I like to call the Obamanation just cause… Continue

Being censored when trying to help others

Before Christmas, I posted several entries into the forum of a local social network run by one of the local news stations here (they had wanted to interview me as part of a story on how this generation uses the internet far more than print or tv news to get their daily fix), on common issues when people buy a game console or a pc, digital camera, etc, including things such as items that your not told you need (digital camera = flash memory, console = extra controllers, etc) for those who aren't… Continue

Why are some people scared of Technology

I have worked in IT for over 5 years now. Currently I am a System Admin for a small company, and one thing I've noticed over these last 5 years is how some people are so set in their ways that they are resistant to new technology and learning new things. I worked in a Casino for 4 of my 5 years in IT, and it amazes me that anytime you implement something new, you would swear we were handing them a gun and forcing them to play Russian Roulette. In any other industry, change has been made and I fe… Continue
