Hello Again!

I'm just going to quickly holler at everyone and let ya'll know I'm back in the saddle. I like to think I've weathered the storm. I'm still not working in an official "job" capacity but I've increased my physical presence locally. It was therapeutic to be able to get out and about. Now I must return to my InterWebs roots and increase my online presence (outside of Twitter, FaceBook, FriendFeed, etc). I'm refreshed, revived, rejuvenated and I hope to show that in the coming days. Any and all… Continue

Stormy Weather

This has been a very busy couple of months for our family. It's become increasingly difficult to maintain webpages and other sites... and to pursue dreams of radios, fashion and environmental causes. However, writing, something I love to do, has also taken a backseat. I'm here to say, I'm back in the saddle..at least for now. Catchup: I still have my day job...barely. It's a month to month decision from the school. The other parental unit in the house was pinkslipped. See the need for fo… Continue

OMGosh... WHO KNEW this???

I have only recently learned that all computer screens on the INSIDE are covered with bacteria, dust, germs, etc. that can be DANGEROUS to your health. This is apparently caused by a variety of reasons, and it can prove to be a health hazard for everyone that uses a computer. A friend of mine at my local health department said that THIS PROBLEM CAN BE AS DANGEROUS as cigarette smoking because of the time that most of us are now spending on computers for work and personal re… Continue

Spring Fever

Boy do I have it BAD. I've started getting my seed inventory together. I've got some dirt mixed the way I like it. I've got a truckload of mulch from the landfill (or Sanitary Landfill, as they prefer to be called). I've got a compost bin full of deliciously bug ridden, compost, and I've got a plan. I'm building up last year's garden. I've added dirt and compost and covered it appropriately with a… Continue

Installment II - Eco Friendly Recipes - Facial Scrub

I have eczema so it doesn't take much for me to have a rash as a result of products that I have totally wasted my money on because they only make one size - LARGE - and offer no free samples. Ingredients: 1/4 C. granulated sugar 2 TBSP honey 1 TBSP lemon juice 1 TBSP vegeta… Continue

Installment I - Eco Friendly Recipes - Fabric Softener

Not only is this environmentally friendly, it is also economically friendly. It'll soften the water and the clothing as well as prevent static cling on mostly everything. It is also fabulous if you have skin sensitivity or are sensitive to smells. You can always add the scent of your cho… Continue

New Year's Eve is upon us!!!!

Hope everyone is having an excellent week! New Year's Eve is upon us! Please be safe and happy. We plan to stay home tonight. After a long and rough-ish year, we plan to start the new year out calm, collected and not hung over or annoyed/grumpy the next day. Don't forget to have some black eyed peas! There are two things I would like for you, my dear readers, to keep in mind: First: Be realistic with your resolutions. Set small achievable goals (maybe 5 lbs at a time? may… Continue

ToyWish2008: Christmas Friends...Middlesex County, VA

Many years ago, my daughter and I were pretty well down and out. We lived in the middle of nowhere (albeit a beautiful nowhere). I was uneducated and trying to get my nursing certification at the local community college. Getting child support was like pulling your own teeth. Painful and pointless. It just wasn't happening. Enforcement just wasn't important to the VA courts back then. This was back when we actually celebrated Christmas holidays in our family with presents and food fixin's at my… Continue

Greening Our Homes

We're all having tough times these days. Who has the time to ...to make things GREEN? Yeah. I know. Cut the thermostat back nightly. Dress in layers. Separate your garbage. Use the microwave. Insulate the pipes. Weatherproof the windows and doors using plastic and caulk and replacing the rotted parts to prevent drafts. Blah blah blah...Same thing we've been doing for years...but have we been doing it correctly? Have we maintained a good habit?

Know how I know you're gay???

OH NO! But now that I have your attention.... Uh oh...I'm gonna talk about the evolution of words for men. Now don't get me wrong, it doesn't mean that they are gay. It just means that men seem to be taking better care of their appearances and health. RIGHT??? Gone are the days of rough hands and the five o'clock shadow face that rubbed the wrong way and caused us to have breakouts, wherever. Hopefully, gone are the unibrows as well. (I wonder if I could find any vintage commercial products tha… Continue

Here are some great chocolate recipes to throw your ADHD self (or child) into overload while home for the holidays! Enjoy! Eco Friendly Car Porn!!!!

Hehe. I knew if I said porn, we'd get some views. http://aptera.com/ Not only is this ecologically friendly it is economically friendly and competitive with today's vehicle prices. If only these things were in serious production! I'd put an order in for one. Apparently, there are state "regulatory" issues that need to be worked out. I would like to know what they are. I definitely don't want to NOT be safe, but if the issues are due to ...um... special interests... then what are they, or who?… Continue

One Less Ugly A$$ Toy for Christmas.... YAYYYYYY.

Okay. Now that my feelings are out, let's answer the question. Just what IS she talkin' about??? Answer: Bratz v. Barbie. Honestly, those dolls have some big dang eyes. Whenever I visit my niece, I ask her if she feels like she's being watched. MGA has lost its case to Mattel. MGA must cease production. The company must also pull the unsold merchandise from the shelves (at least in the US). Barbie is victorious once again! With the legal services of Mattel behind her, thatContinue

Holiday Shopping... Saddens...and Angers... Me...

How many of you have seen this? http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/29/business/29walmart.html and this... http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/2008/11/28/2008-11-28_worker_dies_at_long_island_walmart_after.html Who among you thinks that this is an utterly ridiculous scenario; that in this day and age, this should never have happened? I do believe that material things are NOT better than life itself... I kind of like that whole... "Love thy neighbor" stuff...This scene leaves a bad taste in my mouth… Continue

Fondest Holiday Foods, Music, Memories

The holidays are upon us, and for those of us in the USA, Thanksgiving was yesterday. We all have our special traditions and other things we look forward to every year. Drop me a comment or two on yours. There’s so much to enjoy over the holidays (regardless of the jackasses on the road or in the stores…let’s don’t let them ruin it for us. Surely, not everyone enjoys the season, but please don’t ruin it for those of us who at least try.) I’m sure I’ve missed something on this list, there’s so m… Continue

I'm HOME

It's Monday. Ok. So I think we did so much in the couple of days that I posted, that by the time Friday night rolled around, and the convention meetings and festivities were being wrapped up, I was exhausted. I didn't go back downtown as originally planned. Instead, Ame and I went down to the lounge and met Vat and Jim. We just kind of hung out and listened to the artists playing there and mingled with the folks who remained. There were TVs there also, so Vat and I got to watch the UNC game and… Continue

Second Full Day in Nashville...and Night...

Ok.. the day was long and full of work and stuff like that. I munched and gnoshed, etc. Now... to the good part. We went out to BB Kings Blues Club and had the catfish. My friend, Amy and I were hanging out with our friends Mel, Mer, Dave and Vee. I got my own first drink and... everyone else paid for the rest of my drinking. It was a tasty treat. We danced to the blues band playing that night and ... well the rest isn't a blur. It was a steady evening of revelry. We left BB's because this fe… Continue

Nashville, TN Day 1 (Second Trip)

We spent the night in Cookeville last night at a place called the Alpine Lodge. It was a former Ho Jo's and smelled like it. But that's not a bad thing. It was in a gorgeous location. The units kicked out some heat in the rooms, and we had a continental breakfast. Good enough to hit the spot. Just wait until I load the photos of the place. In the meantime you'll have to settle for five pics I do have posted (via cell phone) to the Geeks site. http://geeks.pirillo.com/photo/albums/nashville-tn W… Continue
