Dubya is still a douche

The other day, still-president Bush and his administration took a break from not doing anything aside from watching the seconds tick down on their administration to refContinue

Obama disappoints

Obama has selected Rick Warren to deliver the invocation at his inauguration.

"As we've pointed out several times before, in 2004 Warren declared that marriage, reproductive choice, and stem cell research were "non-negotiable" issues for Christian voters and has admit

The Large Hadron Collider

An Astronomy student named Aron McCart recently asked me to review a research paper he was doing for a class. I loved the paper so much, I asked it I could repost it to my various blogs. Click on all images to biggify them.

Of course, it doesn't go after the jugular of faith as much as I'd like (it seems the only opposition to the LHC comes from a handful of religious scientists and a fair number of religiously-motivated layman) as a research paper shouldn't, but it'll do.… Continue

I have some good news and I have some bad news...

Disclaimer: When people mess with the well-being of children, it makes my blood boil. As such, even the "good news" section of this note results in a pretty strong rant. If you're faint of heart, keep reading - it'll be good for you. Let's start with the bad: one last time, science is going to suffer at the hands of the current President before he is finally (and mercifully)… Continue

I'm not a sell-out

Really, I'm not. But you can bet your sweet ass that I just whipped out the ol' credit card and ordered one of these.

In fact, I think I'm going to order two, as I fully anticipate breaking the first one in short order.

I get e-mail...

...from crazy/stupid people a lot. However, today I got one from a journalism major asking some questions about blogging. What a pleasant change of pace! In my sickened state I had barely finished typing "fuck off" as a knee jerk reaction before I realized that she wasn't writing to try and fill the Jesus-sized hole in my heart.

Anyway, here are her questions and my answers:

"In your blog, do you consider yourself a journalist? Why/why not?"Continue

Chuck Norris should shampoo my crotch

I've seen this letter from Chuck Norris circulating around the intertewbz, including the blogs of two good friends of mine. So I figure I need to say something about it.

The first seven paragraphs are… Continue

Bad play, Obama

Obama has appointed John Brennan to oversee the transition of Intelligence into his administration. This was a horrific call, and it makes me worry. Brennan strongly supported FISA expansions, immunity for the telecom companies in domestic spying, and torture. This is disconcerting. When Obama was first elected, I wrote a note about how I was happy about the result but cautiously optimistic about what lies ahead - stuff like this is why. It does not indicate what Obama will do once in power, bu… Continue

Quick post from a campus computer

This guy wasn't so bad. He wouldn't let me hold a sign, so I just posed with him.

Our conversation went like this:

Me: "Why should I believe what you believe?"
Him: "Jesus rose from the dead to redeem us."
Me: "I believe you're sincere. But I want to know

Space - it rocks.

It's been such an exciting time for Astronomy lately. We've discovered water on Mars, which means that microbial life is probably there. The next rover we send over there should be able to determine this for sure. The Garden of Eden had quite the extended reach, it seems...

Also, we have our first images of exoplanets orbiting other stars. We… Continue

Gay Marriage: the Arguments

This can be read in its full splendor over at Siderial Heresy.

"Country first" my ass...

The shrieking about Obama’s election has still not ceased from the losers of this last election. In fact, it seems as though so many of them are emotionally invested in the failure of Barrack Obama, even two months before he has taken office. This strikes me as odd, since President-elect Obama can only possibly fail if the nation fails. That is the measuring stick f… Continue

Music Theory with Video Games!

I haven't had the time to do a post lately, so here's one I did a while back over at Siderial Heresy explaining modal music using video games songs. :D Enjoy! "The musical modes differ essentially from one another, and those who hear them are differently affected by each. Some of them make men sad and grave, like the so called Mixolydian; others enfeeble the mind, like the relaxed modes;Continue

Followers of the "most loving god" have to hate an awful lot...

From one of the wisest and most brilliant men I've ever had the fortune to listen to, my father.

On any given day, about 3,700 children are in foster care with only about 1,100 foster homes ready to take them, according to the state Department of Human Services.

The Family Council group contended that a married man and woman is the best environment for children and that other types of families harm children in ways that show up later in life.

We have failed as people - both black and white.

Last night, 95% of blacks in CA voted for Obama. Of that group, 69% voted for Proposition 8, an amendment to the state constitution banning gay marriage. They did this only 40 years after a magnificent milestone in American history: the legalization of interracial marriage. Can our memories truly be so short? Even though the best candidate won last night, I am no less disappointed in humanity. It was our intellectual and empathic shortcomings that resulted in the horrific eight years from whic… Continue

Stay focused.

Last night the best candidate won and the reign of the worst president in the history of our nation finally concluded. This, in itself, was a brief cause for celebration.

But now it's time for all of us who worked for change and who view success as a world in which equality is more than just a word, and who view morality as a guide for producing happiness and avoiding suffer… Continue

Letter to the Editor

Submitted to The Standard:

My vote is a weapon

How is it that when a child needs health care it’s “redistribution of wealth”, but when Sarah Palin is redistributing money directly to the citizens of Alaska it’s not? How is it that when we want more money for education it is socialism, but a $5,000 tax credit for health care is not? Exactly how stupid do you think we are?

Never

Sarah Palin and the first ammendment

This is a good, old-fashioned rant on free speech... This woman just gets more and more conspicuously outrageous... Palin told WMAL-AM that her criticism of Obama's associations, like those with 1960s radical Bill Ayers and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, should not be considered negatContinue

Bill O'Reilly and the electoral map

I have concluded that Bill O'Reilly is a Poe. He has to be. Seriously, the guys gets offended when people don't call him an independent. How hilarious is that? (If you don't know who Bill O'Reilly is, my personal candidate for leader of the free world, Maddox, will be more than happy to… Continue

Karl Marx or Jesus Christ?

In the last, desperate, wailing throes of the McCain campaign, they are trying to attach a long list of unpleasant-sounding words to Barrack Obama: socialist, Marxist, communist, and now redistributer. Anybody who says "Yes! That's exactly what he is and I don't like it!" is a blithering idiot. All politicians are "redistributors." Any affirmative vote on a new tax is a redistribution. And as for socialism - t… Continue
