I will be the first to admit it, I couldn’t live without technology, and it helps me with everything I do daily. It has become more and more incorporated with our daily lives. When I am home I know that the internet is there, I know I have access to more information than I can possibly use in my lifetime and I know that when I need it I can call upon that information to help me. Now let’s say for instance your ISP (internet service provider) goes down what do you do? Your access has just been cu…

There is no point in acting like technology has not changed the way we not only communicate but also how we interact be it some one our block or on the otherwise of the world. This is what we describe as social networking and social media. Twitter is one of the grander examples of networking, myspace facebook friend feed and countless others as well. As humans we have a need for interaction with others. It has been said by some that they know someone in another state or even country better than…

We hear about it all the time but it is something to consider carefully, how do you back up, where do you back up for that matter. These should be the two biggest questions you ask yourself. You have to back up regularly to ensure that if all goes wrong you have something recent to fall back on. You also have to have a very stable source to backup to. I recommend two things on site and off site back up. On site is when you back up to an external hard drive or server. Off site is when you either…

With Apple’s newest updates to the Pro line, it is very impressive, we (that is Jedimonk66 and I) have decided to give you a break down. So lets get right into it and look at the 13.3-inch Macbook Pro line. Starting with the lowest model the 2.26 GHz, we have the standard Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2 gigs of DDR3, a 160 gig hard drive, SD card slot, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics, and a 7 hour battery. Now this actually seems like a big jump for some people but there isn’t much difference betwee…

This post is for those considering getting a computer or upgrading to a new computer. First thing is what will be the main purpose or use of the computer. This could be anything from gaming, email, word processing, web or countless others. I will tell you now that for those of you that want to do gaming do one of two things, either net alien ware, or a customized computer. Hardly any off the shelf computer will be optimized for gaming. If you have a decent budget I would recommend getting an iMa…

Do you think your computer is optimized? Do you have files that you don’t need let alone have a clue what they are? Then get TuneUp Utilities 2009 this is a full optimization program for windows. It does everything from backup files, to looking for system errors, to a full hard drive defragment, or registry defragment. I honestly don’t have anything bad to say about this program which is a rarity, the makers did a great job from just the style and beautiful interface alone, to the actually task…

One thing i hear a lot is that Macs are immune to viruses that is not true. The reason that they are highly unlikely to get viruses compared to Windows is that Windows still has 90% of the market or close to that it every hacker, or person that wants to harm computers attacks it. Sense Mac is the minority it gets hit significantly less. Now i am not saying that you should not protect your Mac this is a mistake no computer is safe proof. Windows just needs heavier protection. Unfortunately this h…

You hear security all the time, but what does it really mean to you? Is you password good enough? is your router secure? Is your computer virus free? These are just a few things that might pop into your head. For me I think of it as 360 if you will total protection , because in my opinion if one goes down the rest of them can follow. Most computers are set up two ways that I like to call local and non-local. Local set ups are secured locally password, programs, firewall and the other common thin…

This is just a short post of a few of the main issues or bugs I know of or have seen in Windows Vista that were fixed I Windows 7 RC. One of the most annoying this sense vista has been that the gadgets crash and take up way to much cpu (central processing unit) Now this was partially fixed in built 7057 but it is now as far as I can tell fully improved they don't crash anymore and take far less cpu. I would go as far to say that graphic tightness is a bug but the RC release certainly has better…

There are a lot of web browsers out there for all of the operating systems. So what are their differences. Well there is the obvious open or closed source. Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, Google Chrome, Mathom, and other lesser know ones. To start off with I have to appologize there is nothing good about IE so don't be suprised when i bad mouth it. If you have IE read the rest of this and promply download a respectable web browser. Google Chrome has recently gone back to beta form, ho…

Now there are two types of hacking know as hacking and ethical hacking. Hacking is when you take an exploit within a system and use it to get through things such as passwords, firewalls, and into networks. This is usually done to infiltrate the system and get information out. This to a lot of people is know as identity theft and such. Now on the flip side this exact process can be used differently, ethical hacking is when you take the exploit, but instead of taking information you are trying to…

When I hear Mac I am sad to say that i do what a lot of people do 1 I congratulate them on going Mac 2 I think wow they had the money for it. This unfortunalty has become all to common people think that they have to pay a lot of money for a Mac well i am here to set that record strait. A Mac does not necessarily have to suck your wallet dry. The deciding factor is what do you want. So first thing first to decide do you want mobility as in a Notebook or do you want a Desktop. For Notebooks there…

Well I have wanted one for a while and finally got it the Apple wireless keyboard that uses bluetooth to connect to your Mac in this case a MacBook. I can not say enough for this amazing little keyboard, very easy and simple to install batteries, nice power button very sneaky power light, and most important maybe a 20 sec paring to the Mac itself. I find that i am typing better, it is considerably light yet has enough tactile to not slide all over the place. I find the design is made with excell…

Now let me start off by saying that some routers can only handle certain encryption this is the first thing you should check before reading about the types. With that said i would recommend WPA or WPA2 these are strong and simple to do. WEP is usually built in to ISP (internet service provider) routers this is a weak encryption i recommend going to something higher or using another utility to lock down your network. This has brought me to another point the majority of ISP routers are defaulted t…

As i mentioned in an earlier post Avast Home Edition is amongst the best free anti-virus software available for Windows, it not only protects you but does so with an easy to use UI (user interface) and solid protection that is backed up by constant updated to the virus database. Most people assume that any protection will do what they don’t consider is the fact that viruses are being created constantly this mean that your protection must be updated just as frequently. For those that run Avast yo…

To start this pro and con discussion, wireless is expensive but is also highly convenient, it offers a range of options and features that are very productive. For instance wireless printing, which allows you to print from any computer connected to the network wireless, without the hassle of transferring it to one that is connected to the printer, or moving a laptop to print somewhere else. This also gives you the ability to share files over the network, and to have a public folder so everyone ca…

There are many ways to protect you against malware; first the most obvious thing to do is enable the Windows firewall. Don't run more than one firewall at any time, this makes them conflict with each other. The best thing is to just run the Windows firewall. Although people will tell you what the best program is the best protection to start with is yourself. You are the one using the computer you shouldn’t invite malware in by opening emails from people you don’t know also clicking on links, or…
