However the £50 price tag means that the software is bound to be snapped up quickly by bargain hunters as this will be a limited stock and the RRP will be £79.99 when the software is launched in the autumn. The Viewsonic VPC100 All-in-One PC is essentially a desktop pc with all of it's essential parts - the processor, hard drive and all the usb ports designed to fit into what looks like a… Continue

How should I dispose of my hard disk securely?

Q) I wish to dispose of an old computer and I understand that the best way of protecting the personal information on the hard disk (my bank details and so on) is to remove the hard disk and break it up with a hammer, and then the other computer parts can be used by a third party. Can you advise how to go about this process? A) The rather odd advice to smash your hard disk if you’re getting rid of a computer was recently propagated by a national magazine (not one related to Computeractive, we ha… Continue

Group Test: Apple iPhone 3GS smartphone contenders

The iPhone 3GS isn’t the biggest or grandest of updates, but for us, it does enough to maintain Apple’s number one spot. We assume Apple has taken an “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it” approach. Gone, however, are the days when Apple’s mobile was a class apart from its rivals. All of the smartphones here give it a run for its money, beating the iPhone in some key areas, notably the camera, and running it close in others, including the touchscreen – until recently, the iPhone’s was, well, untouch… Continue
