So just a little over
5 days ago; I said that I’d take a in-depth look through a couple trial runs of Microsoft Security Essentials; focusing on areas of: Virus Detection, Functionality, Performance and Features; from both the views of an end user and a power user. So strap yourselves in, this post’s going to be a long one.

I've had a spare 2.5" hard drive laying around for a while and I've been wondering what to do with it. It's a 200GB Sata 5200rpm drive; Big enough to be useful, but what for?
Then someone gave me the Idea of putting it into a USB Caddy so I can carry it around with me. Now I already have one of these; a WD 500GB Passport, but you can't ever have too much space!
So I went ahead and ordered on
NexStar CX, made b…

Facebook has had a large amount of security problems since it’s birth. Having such a large amount of subscribers and such lacking security measures, it’s been a big target for spammers/spambots, scammers and spam and/or malware attacks.
Recently, there has been a hit of Spam email claiming to be from the facebook team to users of Facebook that contains a malicious trojan called “Bredolab” that will connect to additional servers that install more malware.
Part of the trojan’s payload is to conn…

Rogue Security Programs have always been a problem. I've gotten a couple of these myself. Ever heard of AntiVirus 2009? Yeah. For the majority of these programs, It involves you downloading and running a program (Most commonly a program that has been mislabeled for you to run it, say a program you would want to install); And the rogue programs installing themselves.
These Programs; By definition are a Trojan Horse. "A Program advertised as preforming one activity but actually does something els…

With the ever approaching release of Windows 7, and the continually rising support for Mac and Linux, I thought I might give everyone my 5 tips based on personal experiences before Upgrading or Moving Operating System:
1) Back up data.
This is probably the most important part of moving or upgrading. Don’t think “I’m only upgrading, My files will be fine!”. I’ve thought this in the past and files can be corrupted or even lost. I back up my files in two ways; A Hard Drive Image of my working sys…

Recently,
Microsoft released their megabundle of security patches to everything from the (Already horribly insecure) Internet Explorer to the Silverlight plugin. Microsoft classes these updates as "Critical Updates", which if anything is making the general public more worried about operating Windows computers across the internet in fear of getting hacked or infected with viruses/spyware/adware.
What m…

At the moment I'm studying (Among other things) Network Security. In my own honest opinion, security with computers (From physical security to viruses, malware and spyware) is overlooked by a lot of end users. Not many end users know what exactly viruses or spyware do; Just that their bad.
As part of the Security class, Every Wednesday we are required to bring in a article (Web or otherwise) about security. So; I thought to myself "Well how about I write up a post, Every wednesday about securit…

But more better things are born… well hopefully.
Fractured logic has been going good for the few months, and I’ve really enjoyed writing, which is why I’m considering dropping the technology-only theme to my blog, and turn it in to just another weblog. This was brought about by a rather large debate, based on if i should start writing for my blog Blaynos.
I’ve decided that a Merger is in store!
Fractured logic will be the combined My boring life in 300 words blog AND My boring TECHNOLOGY life…

My laptop runs hot. So hot in fact, it earned the nickname "Hotplate". So overheating has always been a problem when running cpu-intensive or graphics-intensive tasks.
So what's the solution? A Notebook "Chillpad".
I Previously owned a "Targus Chillpad", but after a few weeks the fans became imbalanced and noisy. after a couple months one of the two fans broke. Time to buy a new one! (This time not a cheap one!)
After a bit of searching and forum digging I came across a NZXT Cryo LX…

There are so many ways I can answer this question, I can't think of any other way of answering it than just pouring my Ideas out.
I'm not quite sure about how Apple are going to go about developing this product, nobody has any clear idea as yet on if it's going to have lots of space, lots of ram, lots of power and have a full-fledged Mac OS X installed upon it (Either Leopard or Snow Leopard depending on release date;), Or if it will have an operating system that makes it somewhat of a glorifie…

I've always believed everybody's opinions count. And let's face it, If you wanted advice on something, would you take advice from just one person, or as many as you could? Well, I'm not sure about you, but for me, I'd go to as many as I could.
I Think that's why I started getting In to blogging. I Felt that sharing my opinions on .. well.. anything, would help someone out. And If One person thought what I said was helpful, then It Isn't a waste of time to me.
In recent months I've been working…

Windows can’t natively burn images. They attempted to make a program that does for windows 7, But even in the RC That’s a big pile of fail.
When I was on Windows XP, I used a program called CDBurnerXP. I used that a long time ago, I didn’t think it was around anymore. Well, guess whose at version 4.2.4?

I Note “for Windows” in the title; Because normally IRSSI is a Linux thing. But people liked it so much they used to use a program such as putty to ssh into a linux server to run the program. I’m not sure if this is what made the developers of IRSSI to think it’d be a good idea to run it on Windows, but I bet it helped.

One of the things I use my computer is Instant Messaging. But, I have friends on Google Talk; MSN and Yahoo! Messenger. So; I set out to find a IM Client that had multiple protocol support, Was customizable and was light weight or un-intrusive. (A heavy feat!)
A little bit into my search I was suggested
Adium. So I thought I’d check it out.

A lot of people who know me will know I’m a media nut. I watch a lot of videos, In lots of diffrent formats. I listen to lots of music. And I have a lot of pictures. (If you Didn’t know that; Now you do!)
One of the biggest concerns I had with using a Mac is the codec to play the diffrent formats of movies. Sure there’s VLC, but that’s never been anywhere neer as good as codec pacs like CCCP for Windows.
I stumbled upon a plugin for Quicktime I thought I’d pass along.…

This is a semi-responce to James Hill's
blog post here. Although we've both got blogs; You can say were pretty much beginners in this compared to a blog such as chris.pirillo.com or lockergnome.com.
I've posted a couple blog posts from my blog on Geeks! and found they went over well. I just want to appeal to the community (Or at least who reads this post :P ) To take a look at my attempt in jump…

Fractured Logic
With the recent couple posts mainly sitting around the New Google OS; I thought I’d do one last, short post on Google: Bing vs Google.
People are stubbon.
This is a point that can be brought into EVERY argument in the IT industry. If something works for them, Why change it? Why risk going to something else?

I’m a Windows user. I’m a Linux user. And I’m soon to be a Mac User.
(Dan; If you're reading, Its why I ordered this specific mac, not mac over pc :P )
I’ve decided to order a Mac Mini over an iMac or MacBook Pro. There were a couple reasons why:
* I Require the portability to move my computer for location to location. For example; when visiting family I can be gone for a week to a month. I could get a laptop, or a Mac Mini which combines a desktop computer with a minimalist design for portabi…
