MacBook Pro 13" - My Thoughts

As seen on DLB1752.TV I had recently purchased the (improved) White MacBook to replace and older MacBook Pro I had been using. I wanted something smaller, and I had been having some hardware issues with my MacBook Pro. Lesson learned, I should have waited! Back in April I did not want to purchase the (then) new aluminum MacBooks due to lack of firewire, and I was not impressed with the specs. When Apple announced the 13" MacBook Pro at WWDC, I knew that was fo… Continue

BlackBerry Storm Tips

I have been using BlackBerry for almost three years now, along side, and sometimes in place of my iPhone. I have always been impressed with their message management and prompt e-mail delivery. The one popular BlackBerry I had never tested was Verizon’s BlackBerry Storm. I had heard the “stories”, but wanted to try it for myself. I was getting bored with my iPhone 3G and wanted a phone with better e-mail a… Continue

Blogging from 30,000 feet!

As seen on DLB1752.TV
I am currently on Delta flight 1490, from Tampa to Boston. Delta now offers WiFi on select flights via "gogo inflight internet". I also heard that my favorite airline, AirTran, will have all their planes equipped by… Continue

Where is the Slingbox iPhone application?

As seen on DLB1752.TV
I am a big fan of the Slingbox, a device that allows you to watch your home television on your computer anywhere you have an Internet connection. Slingbox owners have been waiting for an iPhone application, but have been left hung out to dry. The dispute is over who is to blame: Apple or AT&T? On a recent episode of Bwana's podcastContinue

Disingenuous people abusing social media?

The subject of disingenuous people using social media has been on my mind for several weeks. A good example of this is politicians on Twitter. Some political candidates running for office will “tweet up a storm” during the election, sing the praises of social media, then the minute they are elected you never see another tweet from them. Recently, I was passionately behind a politician (not Obama) that was running for a non-federal office. I supported him first and foremost because I believed in… Continue

How I use Twitter & Twitter’s Future

This is a video response to thecreativeone ‘s video “How do you use Twitter?”. I use Twitter to follow all kinds of people: personal friends, family, a few celebrities, politicians, subject matter experts, news organizations, and much more. I enjoy receiving information rich (and relevant) tweets. I try and “tweet” to the… Continue

MacBook Pro RAM Install

My MacBook Pro (early 2008 verision) was running on the OEM 2 GB of RAM. I wanted to pump it up to 4 GB of RAM. Myself and @jacobmac01 went to Best Buy and got RAM for both of our MacBook Pros (Kensington Brand). His RAM worked fine, but my machine would not take the RAM. When I would put both 2 GB sticks in the Mac, the screen would display nothing. I was able to put one of the 2GB sticks in with one of the old 1… Continue

Microsoft's Ad Starts From a False Foundation

I have seen and read a lot of reviews of Microsoft’s recent $1,000.00 laptop commercial, I am afraid that many of them miss what I see to be the biggest problem with the commercial: it starts from a false foundation. If you have not seen this commercial you can watch it here. The commercial assumes, from the “foundation”, that you are getting the same thing (or even a better product) when buying a PC as compared with purchasing a Mac, so… Continue

What was missing in iPhone 3.0?

I have to say, I think Apple hit a “home run” with this week’s iPhone 3.0 event. They presented most of the features that I (and many others) have been wanting for, for a long time, these features include: MMS, Cut/Copy/Paste, Better YouTube Management, Spotlight and Peer to Peer Gaming - just to name a few. So what did Apple not include in 3.0 that I wanted? Proper Application Management / Home Screen Customization While spotlight will greatly help in managing your applications, I wou… Continue

YouTube needs an iPhone App!

YouTube needs an application for the iPhone. What? But doesn’t the iPhone come with a YouTube application? The iPhone comes with a YouTube “viewer” application, but it is far from an application that allows you to manage your YouTube account on your iPhone. Thankfully an application called “subs” has come out that allows you to quickly search for videos from users to which you subscribe. I have “subs” on my iPhone… Continue

Safari 4 Beta: Initial Review

Apple has released the Beta version of Safari 4 for download to the general public. You can download your copy for OS X here. I think Apple made some great improvements in Safari 4, not a perfect product, but I believe some good progress has been made. Some of the new features: Tabs, for tabbed browsing, are now above the address bar unlike in Safari 3 where they were below the address bar. This gives is it a very Google Chrome look.

Top Five Annoying Twitter Updates

Tongue-in-cheek, have a sense of humor. This includes “Facebook statuses” as well. Here we go: 5. “I am eating (fill in the blank).” Why do people feel that is necessary to share? I understand if it is followed by a recipe link, a picture, or referencing a certain restaurant. Call me presumptuous, but otherwise I don’t think the world needs to know you are eating a PBJ. 4. “@deepblue @teetime #randonhashtag RT Fav Pic http://www.tinyurl.com/ffhfh #pointlesshashtag #anotherone @feedingtime coo… Continue

Business “Fan Pages” on Facebook ?

On my recent trip to the airport, I went through the drive-thru of Chic-fil-A (fast food establishment) in which I saw a prominent sign that read “become a fan of Chic-fil-A on Facebook” in the Facebook blue/white color and font. I have known of Facebook having fan pages, but I had never seen a business directly market their Facebook fan page in such a way. Take a look at Chic-fil-A’s Facebook fan page. Their fan page allows them to communicate di… Continue

Twittering @ The Super Bowl

I was blessed enough to receive two free tickets to the Super Bowl! I live in Tampa Bay and was already signed up to volunteer at the Super Bowl, so this was an amazing opportunity. My best friend Tod, who is a die hard Steelers fan from Pittsburgh, flew down to go to the game with me. Please watch the video I made of the half time show, and you can see pictures of the event on my FlickrContinue

Amateur Radio: When All Else Fails

Want to really be considered a geek? Become an amateur radio operator! Amateur radio, often referred to as “ham radio”, is like CB (citizen band) radio but on different frequencies and regulated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). To transmit on these reserved frequencies you must take a test from the FCC about basic transmission practices and technical skills. There are three levels of amateur radio operators: Technician, General, and Extra. Each level allows you to transmit on diff… Continue

Twitter: The Death of the Mainstream Media?

Twitter, once again, made its way into the news last week with the crash of a US Airways plane in New York City. A Twitter user, by the name of Janis Krums, took one of the first amateur pictures of the plane in the water, and sent it out via TwitPic. This picture was seen on web news outlets such as the Drudge Report. The Daily News (New York) wrote an article about this, claiming that afterwards Twitter and the blog community were humming that this is further proof of the death of the mainstre… Continue

Talks of Windows 7

It seems that YouTube and all other technology blogs are talking about Windows 7, rightly so after the CES 2009 keynote and the beta release. I myself have never used Windows 7, just seen the videos online. However, thus far, the feature sets do not excite me. The majority of them appear to be knock offs of Mac OS X and features that you can already get in current versions of Windows with third party software. I think what Microsoft needs to achieve is not just a glamorous feature set that resem… Continue
