THERE IS NO FINISH LINE!!! (arcade stuff again)

Okay... so... just when I thought I was getting close... the line got pushed back a little. I went out yesterday morning... and picked up another one.

Couldn't pass it up! It's not my fault... this nice lady had it for sale for $80! Granted, it needs monitor work and the power sup… Continue

Approaching the finish line (arcade stuff again)

Well, it's been few months of hunting, scraping, wheeling, and dealing. So far, the list stands at... Tron, Robotron, Empire City, Galaga, Pole Position, Crazy Kong cabaret, Ms Pac-Man cabaret (that means mini!), and Galaxian. I promised myself that when I get my Satan's Hollow I'm done until I find an Environmental Discs of Tron... so I'm cramming everything I can get in before I find that Satan's Hollow machine. So, total count... 8 so far. Machines that are working?... 4. lol But it's all ab… Continue

Saw the Dragonball Movie

Well... I called this many many MANY months ago... yeah, sucked. I'm not even going to get into the whole "Goku was white?!" thing... if that's your biggest complaint... then you might have an extra chromosome or two. In the story, he's an alien with a monkey tail... seriously, you want to say that he just happens to look Japanese too? Get over it. Honestly, the acting, the story, the whole look of the movie... complete pile. But... Emmy Rossum was in it... which is seriously the only reason I… Continue

More Arcade Games

Well, went out about a week ago and picked up two more projects. These two were on my list of games that I wanted, and I managed to get them both for $100. Very lucky for me in my opinion. I now have a Galaga and Pole Position in my collection... so, the total is up to 5 arcade machines... Tron, Robotron, Crazy Kong, Galaga, and Pole Position... with a set of Defender boards... but no cabinet Galaga was working when I picked it up, developed some errors when I was moving it... I've traced the e… Continue

Robotron GO!

Well, after doing a little more work on Robotron... it's good to go as far as playing. It took a bit of work since I didn't have the Williams' power supply in the cabinet when I got it... actually, didn't really have anything in the cabinet when I got it... but I lucked out and ended up with everything I needed to make it playable. I lucked out and got the control panel from a friend for pretty cheap... I had to strip it to get to the original holes for the buttons and joysticks... but again, no… Continue

Last Major Tron Piece... Done.

Well, that's it. The last "major" piece of the machine came in a couple of days ago. The MCP background art that goes behind the shroud is finally in the machine. She's officially complete.

Now I just have to start getting the money built up for the restoration... ... it never ends. Continue

My Tron is Almost Done

Finally got a marquee for her. This is an original glass marquee, not a repro... and I'm really happy to have it. Looks pretty much brand new, only minor scratches from where the marquee slide into place on the machine... no scratches are visible when it's installed... I'm in the home stretch... there's only 1 more piece I need for the game to be complete. I need the background art.… Continue

My Tron's Finally Playable

Well, got the joystick shaft back from the shop. Hooked her up and played a few games... I'm so used to playing on MAME my score suuuucccckkkksss... only @28,000. The light cycles are a little harder with the joystick... I had to do a little tuning to make sure I get diagonal movement on the Grid Bug and MCP stages... but it's making it too easy to weave all over the place in the light cycles... since I need that diagonal movement in the other stages, I guess I'll just have to learn how to go ea… Continue

Well, after a little bit of waiting and part hunting... Got 'em.

Yeah, those pictures are huge. Don't care... you're a geek, you should have a decent internet connec… Continue

Tron Joystick!

Finally! For anyone following my progress with my Tron machine... so... basically just me.... BUT, the people over at GGG Groovy Game Gear have JUST released their new Tron joysticks... new? Don't you mean reproduction?... NO! I mean NEW! They got their hands on the ORIGINAL molds and color chips used to create the original Tron joysticks back in the day. They've done a limited release to test the waters and see about demand before they do a large sca… Continue

ITS TRON!

Tron lives again! I got my EPROM programmer and eraser in today... after a couple of minutes figure'ng out the software and DIP switches... erasing and programming the EPROMs... Tron is Tron again... mostly. I kinda ran out of chips... I was 1 (ONE!) chip short so some of the graphics are a little screwy... but it's Tron, I can recognize it, half play it (still missing my Tron control panal... VERY hard to play without a joystick). I have my missing chip on order and should be here in a couple… Continue

Tekken 6 in Nashville

As (not) many of you have probably (not) noticed. I've been pretty absent from here, the chat, and vent channels. I've been spending the past couple of weeks helping a friend of mine set up his arcade here in Nashville. Been moving a ton of machines from different locations to his arcade. And more over, I've been spending the past week sanding, priming, and painting the cabinet for Tekken 6. For anyone that follows the arcade scene still, or arcade tournaments, Tekken 6 is a pretty hard find..… Continue

"Tron" Lives

The Tron machine, which still has Two Tigers in it right now, is alive and kicking... granted, how/when it kicks seems to be out of my control. The old monitor is showing it's age and isn't acknowledging the "blue" input 100%, so the screen is getting a lot of red and green. But it is playable... which is a miracle in itself. After taking a closer look at the connectors that link the video, CPU, and sound boards together, 3 of them are in much worse shape than I though... BUT, they're still work… Continue

Tron art still there... kinda...

Got bored so I decided to take off the side art from the cabinet because I hated looking at that Two Tigers art... I knew the old Tron art was under there, but I figured it would get destroyed when I pulled the Two Tigers work off... turns out I was wrong. I guess whoever put the new art on didn't do a great job of cleaning the surface before apply'ng... so, yay me. Granted, the Tron art under there doesn't look that great, but for me... it's better than what was on there.… Continue

Product Review: Zvue 30906 Spirit 1 GB MP3 Player

I don't do these things very often... but I was curious about this little guy since I've been looking to replace my Creative Zen paperweight. I figure with this one having no moving parts, then maybe it'll be a little better for someone like me that's a little clumsy and only listens to MP3's occasionally while I'm out and about. For starters, the first thing I was curious about, was the… Continue

Tron, partial update.

Started to clean out the top a little more, behind the marquee light, found that the speakers were pretty well encrusted with bee's nest. For those that don't know, these are what we locally call "dirt dobbers"... they basically make their nests out of mud. There isn't a hole or nook or cranny in the cabinet that doesn't/didn't have a bee's nest in it.

More work on Tron

Well, after a little bit of searching I found the problem with the main power supply. So, as soon as I can get a chance to go out into town, I'll fix that. I did a ghetto patch job on it and all of the lights on the cabinet came on... so that's a plus. Also added the front panel back onto the machine, so there's another piece... but the lights behind that panel are blown, and when I put in a new starter and a new bulb, that bulb instantly popped as well. I did put in an FS-22 starter, instead of… Continue

Starting on Tron

I finally went yesterday and picked up my Tron arcade cabinet. It's in pretty decent shape, all the inside artwork is pretty well intact. We gutted the monitor because it had burn in from the game that was already in there, "Two Tigers". The side are is also covered with Two Tigers side-art, I doubt they're able to be saved though. But I do know where I can get all the parts and she should be up and running in "no time"... as soon as I get the money. I've loved this game since I was little, so a… Continue

Hollywood killing Hollywood

To start off with, I have a different writing style... if you can even call it a style. I rant. Randomly, without any fair warning. I've heard around a few places about how some people in Hollywood are blaming movie pirates for the decline in ticket sales over the past few years. But, some box office hits are completely shattering the old records for most money on an opening weekend. You hear on the news about how Batman beat the "old" box office record held by Spiderman 3, and how that beat th… Continue
