Here's a simple concept that would help Microsoft gain more consumer respect for Windows. Would it not be nice to be able to reboot certain components of the operating system without restarting Windows itself in effort to help eliminate the need to reboot after an installation? I think it would be nice to somehow allow a "rehash" of certain services, dlls, and system components from the task manager. Do you agree? Comment with your thoughts please.

Ah, the next Microsoft Windows operating system is finally getting ready to be released. This wonderful occasion only happens about once every 3 to 5 years. However this time, for me, it is different.
Between the last Microsoft Windows release, Windows Vista, and present time I have reconsidered my love for Microsoft Windows. After becoming more of a “Geek” I started to slowly realize there were other operating systems out there that were as modern and functional as Microsoft Windows. I also re…

Imagine this: Your working on a research paper and you cant find the name of Abraham Lincoln's sister. (Scary, right?) So, as any modern-day person would do, you Google it. Oh look.. the first result goes to Wikipedia. Now you need to know who invented the internet. Once again, one goes to Google it and the first result is Wikipedia. Why is this? Was there a special deal made between Wikipedia and Google? The answer: No.
Wikipedia simply has so much information it has consumed a definable porti…

No matter what protocol, no matter what client, we all use some type of instant messaging. Some use services like AIM and MSN (Windows Live) while others use protocol like XMPP or IRC. What if I told you that there is a client that supports all of these protocols and more? What if I told you that there was a client that supportat multiple accounts, plugins, customization, and much more? Well, I most certainly wouldn't be crazy, because it exists!
Pidgin Instant messenger, available at…

Over the past couple of days Chris Pirillo, fellow geek, blogger, ustreamer, technologist, and inspiration, has been working on a new project. Over the weekend he finally introduced this project as Twickie. Twickie apparently allows you to have a centralized and more organized point to view your @ replies. Now I don't get a lot of @ replies at all on Twitter so I haven't been able to test this tool extensively. There are also some nice features that let you copy/paste the @ replies to a conversa…

For those of you that have access and were watching my private live stream the other night, I recorded a video and showed you some pretty neat screensavers for Windows, some compatible with Mac OS X. I personally don’t worry too much about my screensaver and usually keep mine set to the Windows version of “Flurry” from Mac OS X. Here is the official list of the screensavers I talked about, in no specific order:
DropClock
This screen saver displays a rather unique clock that shows each d…

USB (Universal Serial Bus) was created for one purpose. This purpose was to allow hot swapping, which simply means that you can connect/disconnect a device to your computer without rebooting the operating system.
USB 3.0 was first introduced back in September 2007 by Pat Gelsinger. The main difference between past USB versions and the USB 3.0 is the 5.0 Gbit/s transfer rate (SuperSpeed). This means that flash drive will be able to transfer files alot faster, that print job will be done in no-ti…

Countless people have downgraded from Microsoft’s Windows Vista to Windows XP. Why are people doing this? The reason is simple. As many people have said in the past in blog posts, forums, and even on TV, Windows Vista is a heavy weighed-down operating system. When you boot into it you get this feeling of a cold and dark presence. Ok so I may be going a little over the top, however it does need to
lighten up a bit.
I think the biggest problem with Vista is its design. Even booting into Wi…

Think back, way back; Long before Google, YouTube, Facebook, eBay, & Wikipedia. Can anyone remember those days? No, I’m not talking about the last time Google changed their logo, I’m referring to the period of time when almost all of the internet was static web pages, possibly containing some JavaScript. Before social-media websites took over the internet. Before there was such thing as a blog, and live streaming video was unheard of! When dial-up internet was the next big thing.
My memorie…

I would like to sincerely apoligize to the community for my long-term absence. I caught some kind of a flu bug or something and was out for quite a while. Just letting everyone know I'm back and should be making daily blog posts soon!

Hey Geeks!
Today I stopped by Best Buy to find myself a new monitor. I had a little bit of Christmas money left over and I'm constantly running out of space on my desktop. After hooking up the new LG Flatron W1942T and setting up the dual monitor configuration in Windows Vista, I was quite satisfied. I don't know how I would live without a dual monitor setup after using it for only a few minutes. It's not like it's new technology or anything, and nothing to really brag about. I'm simply express…

Hey Geeks!
Just wanted to apologize for my absence lately. I've been out for a few months now just because life gets really busy sometimes, and you really can't help it. I'll get everything updated this week. I had a wonderful Christmas and hope you all did too. Please share with me what presents Santa Clause left you by replying to this post! I celebrate Christmas twice (split family) and so far I've gotten a really nice Logitech 5.1 surround sound system and some other neat little gadgets. On…

Ever tried to transfer a domain? Then you must know, there is absolute hell to pay. Codes and emails and verifications and etc... not fun. I'm switching a domain from HostMonster to GoDaddy because it gives me better DNS control over the domain, while I can still keep my hosting and manage the e-mail addresses for the domain at HostMonster. It is very time-consuming and tiring, however I hope it will all work out in the end. I'll keep my other 4-5 domains with hostmonster as I do not need advanc…

Ok! So I created my geeks profile today and absolutely love it! I hate all of the MySpace and Facebook crap. It is great to finally find a social network for Geeks! I'll work on adding some more content and maybe an IRC channel.
