Open MSConfig..... in the boot menu select advanced options and select the number of processors or cores you have and then save. My original boot-time was ( 111 sec ) with this option unchecked and with the External HDD connected. The boot-time drop to ( 95 sec ) with the processor option selected ( 4 ) External HDD connected.
