Wayne Thornton Lenovo made a mistake..... and I benefited!

Okay, so we have all heard about the newest project to be released from Microsoft's Redmond Labs, Windows 7. Now that it is in the RTM phase, (for you newbies out there to tech lingo, RTM means Release To Manufacturing) we are constantly bombarded with offers for a free upgrade if we purchase a Vista-based PC before a certain date. That's really cool. But what happens to those of us who buy XP-based netbooks. Are we left out to dry? For the time being it seems so, but that's not to say we can't… Continue

Tim Gerads Windows 7

You might be sitting there with XP and wondering to yourself, "Why should I upgrade to Windows 7?" You might be thinking the same thing with Vista. Well, let me break this down to you simply: if you don't have any problems with your current OS and you're not buying a new computer any time soon, then don't upgrade. That's right. If everything's working and you're not running into any compatibility walls, then just stay where you are. If, however, you are running into problems with either Vista o… Continue

Raymond Mendoza Upgrading From Windows Vista to Windows 7

My lovely wife, Tara, has a Toshiba laptop that she has owned for the past year. Being about a year old, it's a Vista Home Premium roll-out machine. She enjoys the benefits of the 64-bit Vista Home Premium install, the dual-core AMD Turion X2, ATI Radeon integrated graphics, etc. She is also one of the few who enjoys using Vista. She likes the interface, the add-ons, and the ways that things are placed. It just seems to make sense. She isn't one of the crazy, anti-progress hermits who insist on… Continue

Jerm993 The Hunt for the Ultimate Desk.

I started the weekend off looking for the ultimate and perfect desk to meet my needs, i also quickly found out this isn't an easy thing to find. My needs are quite basic, I don't need a super gaming chair like The V1 or this beauty↓ but then again i would like a little more storage in my desk not found in many Ikea models. I also found that Prices fo… Continue

Ben Hanson How to create an iPhone ringtone for free in Windows

Whilst I have a Mac and don't have this problem, many people use Windows and ask me how to create an iPhone ringtone without paying the extra allowance on iTunes, well here's how! -- As you may or may not know, Apple Mac computers come with Garageband which has a free iPhone RingTone tool built in, but if your like many others who use Windows and you own an iPhone, to create a ringtone you'd think you'd have to do it through iTunes through that annoying pay method, but no you don't, here's how t… Continue

darthpenguin The Ultimate Media Manager

The Ultimate Media Manager My first computer ran Windows 95. But it wasn't until I got a computer with Windows XP that I started using media managers. Windows Media Player was the first one I tried, I eventually learned to hate it. Then I tried Winamp, perhaps my favorite media player but it still didn't do everything I wanted. I experimented with Linux and decided to try some open source media managers while I was at it. None truly impressed me. I tried Songbird on Linux, Windows, and Mac. It… Continue

John C Windows 7. What do you think?

Recently a lot of people have been asking me "What do you think of Windows 7". I said It's a good operating system, but I wouldn't bother upgrading. They asked "Why?", In response I said a few new featues and changes to the shell and GUI are no reason for me to upgrade if I have a perfectly running computer which has Vista on it. If you want to try Windows 7 without breaking your computer (not saying it will), then try it in Microsoft Virtual PC, the program is free from Microsoft, and the down… Continue

JT I received my 4GB of RAM today

I received the gift that I bought myself from Crucial.com when I got home today. It was sitting in my Mail Box. When I ran their scanning tool and then placed my order a warning popped up stating that a 32 Bit Windows OS would only register 3584 MB or maybe even less. I ordered it anyway and then installed it as soon as I went into the house. I checked the BIOS Setup and it did recognize 4096 MB and then I booted up my Vista Ultimate Laptop and it also reco… Continue

Alex The Ultimate Mouse.

What is you ultimate mouse? What type do you prefer? Is it a track pad, or nub in the middle of a notebook? Or is it the mouse you are using now? Wired or wireless? Well for me it is my Gateway mouse that came with a computer I bought a while back. It is big and doesn't make you claw it... which is what you want to stay away from. Some people enjoy a mouse that has millions of buttons and others enjoy a simple 3-button mouse. Now with the wired versus wireless debate a wired mouse doesn't take b… Continue

Alex The Ultimate PC Audio Experience.

What is the ultimate way to listen PC audio? Whether it be music files, movies, or games, PC audio is the second most important part of the PC experience. Some people only surf the web and write a few e-mails on a computer, to me that gets boring. Now some enjoy only two satellites and that's all... I don't. I feel like you need a little more power. One way to go is surround sound, though it isn't so practicle in a small room because there isn't as much room to surround. Though if you are in a l… Continue

Alex The Ultimate PC Tip.

What is the ultimate PC tip? What piece of advice could you give someone to overall help their PC experience? Whether it be a hardware tip or a software tip... a tip can help anyone in some way. To me the ultimate tip is to watch what you download, always. I don't care what you download or where you download it from, they all have the potential for danger. Many people associate torrents with trouble but that isn't always the case. BitTorrents are completly legal but the content within them may n… Continue

Alex The Ultimate External Hard Drive.

Thnk about it... what is your ultimate external hard drive? There are many different sizes and styles and formats but think about it... what is the ultimate external hard drive? Some people think that Firewire is the best, which it could be but it's not as readily available as USB 2.0. Even so the Firewire usually provided on a PC is Firewire 400, which is slower than USB 2.0. Now if you have a Mac you will get Firewire 800, unless you get a new macbook, and Firewire 800 is faster than USB 2.0 b… Continue

Alex The ultimate.

Think about it, what is your ultimate... whatever. I am starting an "ultimate" line of blog post to ask people what there ultimate something is and why. The first is the ultimate keyboard. Is your ultimate keyboard erganomic or standard? Do you prefer a laptop key style keyboard or keys that take a little more push to strike them? For me it's a keyboard that is very durable and heavy. It has to have keys that are tough to strike but not so tough that I have to hit tem with a sledge hammer to get… Continue
