Mercuryblues78 Tech support.

I used to work in technical support for a 24/7 call center. One day I got a call from an individual who asked what hours the call center was open. I told him, 'The number you dialed is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.' He responded, 'Is that Eastern or Pacific time?' Wanting to end the call quickly, I said, 'Uh, Pacific.' Continue

medinamatt Belkin Tech Support FTW!

If you read my 2nd blog (http://matthewmedina25.bravejournal.com/entry/32736), then you know that my sister is getting a laptop, and we got a wireless G router to connect it to the internet. My mom wasn't going to let me setup the router until June 27th (when my sister gets the laptop), then she changed it to June 24th, when my aunt and cousin come with their laptops for a visit. While I was rambaling about protocols and the range of the router, I convinced her to let me set it up today. Well, I… Continue

Lorn Spectrel Rant on Norton Internet Security !!^#@@$*&%^^%$#!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What other product can you buy and have no record of it by the company? Black market kidneys and is my guess. I just bought a renewal to my internet security (yes, the one that came with the computer). I got the e-mail/ invoice. I entered the renewal code. It gives me the error message that the renewal code is invalid. Ooookaaaaay, I check that the date and time is set right on my computer. I check my Norton account online and that's when I started getting a very weird picture. My Norton account… Continue

Ross Comcast Cares... on Twitter

A few days ago I was ranting on Twitter about how I hate Comcast internet and how I was getting 1000+ ping when all of a sudden I get a @reply from a Comcast employee - "can i help get that resolved for you?" Now mind you, I was pretty heated. I had just got out of a live chat session for the second time with a rep that wanted to have me pay to get a truck rolled to my house and have MY problem fixed. Oh... by the way MY problem was "happening to dozens of users in your[my] area." - Comcast Liv… Continue

Cookenstein I have a friend in CO

I have this friend in Colorado whom I worked with for a couple of years from 2006 thru spring of 2008. He is a good guy, and a very good chef. My district recently shifted and I was pulled from this location. Around this time, his health had gotten worse, and the long and short of it is, he can no longer do the type of long physical kitchen work that he has become accustomed to. Not to mention providing for his family will be tough for awhile. He has and is trying to be enterprising and setting… Continue

Joshua I can has WindowsXP ???

In a bizarre move nobody expected, Microsoft has given the Green Light to HP (The top seller of Windows PCs) to STILL allow Windows XP sales until April 2010 when this summer, June 2008, should have been the cutoff for ALL Windows XP sales ANYWHERE. Microsoft will no longer provide feature upgrades after April 14, 2009 (Yeah, next Tuesday) That also means no more free tech support from Microsoft.... Wait, they had that??? Although you will be able to get web support and critical updates until 20… Continue

Ruan Apple "Authorised Service Centre" and burning Magsafe woes.

So, I'm sat down doing some University work with my Macbook Pro on it's stand with a keyboard connected, and I notice a feint smell of hot plastic, ignore it and assume it's outside. Few minutes later there's smoke coming from my Magsafe connector which I promptly pull out and find it's actually basically burnt itself out. I ring Apple Support to which they say I have to find an Apple Service centre, which when you live in the middle of nowhere and it's almost an hours drive to the nearest one,… Continue

Ron Knights Your Computer is Dumb!!!

I worked as a Technical Support Engineer at a Call Center in 2000. We were contracted to supply Technical Support for the Microsoft Networks Internet service (MSN.) We helped people get connected via dialup (phone) lines. The job was very rewarding. I took great delight at helping even the most "Technically Challenged" people solve their problems. One thing became abundantly clear to me. Our computers are totally dumb. Computers do not think. They only do what they're told. They'll keep doin… Continue

Alex Linux!

Hey. I just installed Ubuntu 8.04 and got it all configured. Only thing I can't get working is my dual screens. I tried once, but when I restarted my monitor that i currently had assigned just went to sleep and stopped receiving input. But for now one monitor is fine. I added a picture of my desktop to my profile, check it out! And if you want to post a link to your desktop, feel free! Thanks! Continue
