DellMan94 How Electronics Should Be Made

Hey All, Let's face it, eletronics are not made they way they used to be made. Be it audio gear, computers, peripherals, you name it. The build quality and durability of those old components and gear is second to none. Here is a good example. I just got a few weeks ago a Pioneer SX 780 Stereo reciever from 1979. I cannot get over how well this thing is made compared to things today. The faceplate, tuner and all the knobs are REAL machined brushed aluminium. The toggle switches (which I have rar… Continue

Mike Copeland Follow Friday on The Way Out?

For a while now Follow Friday has been a good way for people to recommend great people to follow on twitter. As a geek I use twitter for sharing information, and interest. One of the people I follow made the statement to me that "more followers isn't better, better followers is more". What I mean by better followers is that none of this spam crap, not someone who spews out senseless nonsense. I’ve used Follow Friday since June I believe, but with the introduction of Twitter Lists Follow F… Continue

Computerwhiz1 Ceaning Out Your Mac With Onyx

As you might know your mac will slow down over time. It does not matter what you do with your mac as long as it is on it will slow down over time. Now don't get scared because it is nothing drastic like windows when you would have to reinstall the OS and you won't have to reinstall OS X either. The thing that happens is overtime files left over from unused programs and caches that never got cleaned pile up on your hard drive. This not only takes up valuable space, but it slows down your overall… Continue

Patrick Korkuch Do you like playing with old technology?

Nowadays, it seems like new technology comes out to replace the old stuff every week. You may buy a custom built computer, but by the time you finally get it, there's something new and better! Naturally, this leaves a lot of old technology. Most people toss away, or (hopefully) recycle old computers, cell phones, and other gadgets. Although I love to play with the newest technology, as every geek does, I also occasionally like to dust off an old computer tower, or even play around with an old ce… Continue

dave Use old internal hard drives for free storage

Use old internal hard drives for free storage Have an unused internal hard drive sitting around? Maybe you upgraded a laptop hard drive to a bigger capacity, or you pulled an internal drive from a desktop PC before selling it. You can put either kind back to work as extra, free storage. Inside a desktop PC: 2.5-inch laptop and 3.5-inch PC SATA drives use identical connections, which means that a recent laptop hard drive can work instantly. If you want to install a laptop drive in a PC, remembe… Continue

Tim What can I do with an old Mac?

I have an old iMac G3, one of the dark green models, and I was wondering what I could do with it. It is running 10.3.9, has a 20GB hard drive, and 512MB of Ram. As far as I know, the Ram cannot be upgraded any further, but I am willing to update the Hard Drive if necessary. It does not have an airport card because Apple doesn't make it anymore, and tekserve didn't have any either. If you know where I can get an Airport card, please let me know, but my main concern is what I can do with this comp… Continue

Zach Kowalchuk Living with depression.

Many people have depression, including myself. I've never really told anyone about it because I always felt like if I admitted it, people would think I'm weak. But talking about problems and depression with people actually helps a lot. I was born with depression and I also have a high chance of type 2 diabetes because it runs in my family. Being only 14, this is a lot to deal with along with school. This probably isn't a place for posts like this, but what the heck. The worst part of depression… Continue

Hsushoe The 130 year old woman.

A woman in Kazakhstan claims to be 130 years of age. Which I find hard to believe because I am pretty sure she has not lived that long. According to the woman she has no record of really being 130 because all she has is a "social security" card that says that she was born in 1897 (if memory serves right) you can go to Yahoo.com to watch the video yourself. But completely think that it is ludicrous to live that long. People are bound to pass sooner or later. But maybe the lady had lost it and dec… Continue

David Transfering PROGRAMS From One PC to Another?

Hey guys, I just bought a new HP desktop PC and am currently using an HP laptop PC. I know how easy it is to copy my files from this computer to the new one, however, is there a way to copy all of the PROGRAMS, not files, to the new one while still having them on the old laptop? I really don't want to have to go back to all of the websites and pull out all of the installation CDs again while still having to reconfigure all of the settings back to the way I like it for the programs. By the way, I… Continue
