Michael Google VS Microsoft

Last week I was listening to Windows Weekly and I thought that they brought up a good point about Google and Microsoft. That was Microsoft really has never had a computer like Google. If you go back and look when Netscape wanted to be the new Microsoft, Microsoft crushed them with IE 3. Why is that? Well Netscape just didn’t have the money to compete with them. Google on the other hand dose have the money. I really think this is what Microsftys have nightmares about at night. A company that has… Continue

Michael IS Chrome OS The Windows Killer

Google came out and showed what they have of Chrome OS so far. It boots in 7 sec’s, its secure, and from the moment you hit the power button you are online. I have herd people that think that Chrome OS could be a Windows killer. The video that Google made to explain it is below. To see the rest go to http://mikesworldoftech.squarespace.com/ Continue

Eddie Ringle Comparing Chromium and Firefox 3.5/3.6/3.7 Nightlies' JavaScript Performance

I have always been interested in efficiency and performance. So much, in fact, that when I finished installing three different trunk (latest source code) builds of Firefox (3.5.6, 3.6, and 3.7), I just had to compare their JavaScript performance with that of Chromium. I have heard that the TraceMonkey JavaScript engine got some performance boosts in 3.7, and wanted to find out for myself just how fast the engine was and if it was faster than Chromium's V8 JavaScript engine. The defacto JavaScrip… Continue

Waqar M Google opens up Chrome extension gallery for uploads

Google has advanced through a major step for it's browser Chrome by opening up the extension gallery. This allows developers to upload their extensions for Chrome however Chrome users cannot use them, yet. Extensions are the major assets of other browsers like Firefox which is famous for the library of addons/extensions that it has, allowing users to customize it in several different ways. Once the users can use these extensions we might an interesting battle between Firefox and Chrome because o… Continue

Michael Brodt Chrome OS... Is Stateless the way to go?

So, I just saw this little intro video Google has about it's new Chrome OS. What caught my attention was what was said towards the end of the video. Chrome OS is basically designed to be a "stateless" OS. This basically means that the OS will not exist "on your computer" , but rather, be loaded on boot from a remote location. Now, this isn't a new idea. As a matter of fact, it has been around for years. Citrix has been doing it, even Mac OS X has this ability. Basically you set up a server and… Continue

Alfred Esbjörnson My thoughts on Google Chrome OS

So, I watched the Chrome OS conference video that Google put up yesterday and I've been reading a lot of peoples responses. But, before I jump into that, I'd like to write about my own thoughts about the OS. When Google Chrome, the browser, was released I wasn't too impressed. I enjoyed using Firefox and having tried Chrome I decided to stick with Firefox. Nowadays I use Google Chrome mainly because of the look and feel of it, but also because of the speed. I think that the thing about Google C… Continue

Adam Google Apps

For all of my domains, instead of setting up a mail server on all of my servers, I use Google Apps instead. Google apps is like having your own Google account, except for your domain. The main feature I use is Email, but there is also Docs, Chat, Mobile, and much more. It is very easy to setup, more so than setting up a mail server of your own, because all you have to do is put in a few MX records. There are a few versions of Google Apps, one is free and the other isn’t. I use the free version b… Continue

Jacob Iphone V.S. the Androids Channeling the Mac V.S. PC War

All i have been hearing lately is how the iphone has severe problems and apple is not addressing them. Usually following this "rant", i hear something about an Android Operating System based Phone. How people love the phone, how its so easy to use, how there are so many applications for it. While those claims may or may not be true they seem a lot like the Mac v.s. PC wars claims. The mass use of the Android operating system on several different devices make it just like the "windows" of… Continue

AshTR Want some Google Wave?

I recently sent out some invites then realized on the next batch of invites, I'll have nobody to send one to. That's why I made a private To-Be-Invited Wave invite list for myself. If you want to be on it so I can invite you to Google Wave when I get more invites, leave me your email in a private message or PM me on GeekShed IRC. (You don't have to ask if you can PM me on there, just do it.) Continue
