#8 - Where Do You Think Is The Best Start Menu Position On The Desktop ? Ok so i recently have installled XP and created a dual boot function to work with Vista anyway i can now run the two OS and get the choice to boot into either on startup. However in Vista i have been using the start menu at the defaulted bottom but in XP i decided to go bit wacky and use it at the Top i have found personally that its better at the top , takes some getting use to but once you do its perfect , well it is for… Continue

dave Protect your PC with a hard-drive password

Protect your PC with a hard-drive password A user-account password is important for security, but it's useless if your PC is lost or stolen; a thief could just install your hard drive in another PC instead of trying to boot it up under your name. To block access, add a password to the hard disk. This process is simpler than encrypting the hard disk, but it can't match encryption's level of security. (Encryption scrambles data so that even if a thief gains access, he probably can't make sense o… Continue

Terrorbyte How to remove Ubuntu from Dual-boot with XP

Hello Geeks! I thought I'd blog this as resources on this topic are scattered over the internet, and I know a lot of people here run Ubuntu, so I thought this would help. This technique has only been tested on machines dual-booting Ubuntu (9.04 and 8.10) and Windows XP (Home and Pro). I do not know whether it works with Vista, or other Linux distros. Also backup before changing your hard disk (I didn't, but I'm naughty). This method is for people who don't know their admin password or don'tContinue

Marshall How Successfully Dual-Boot Hackintosh and Ubuntu Linux

There are loads of tutorials out there on how to Dual-boot pretty much any combination of Operating Systems, and I felt it was about time I contributed my part on how to dual boot two of my favourite ones: Ubuntu Linux and OSx86. There are several methods to achieving this, however after trying and failing for about a week, myself and a friend finally managed to get it working – turns out it was as easy as pie and we were trying to do all the wrong things. This is how we finally did it, after n… Continue

darthpenguin Dual Boot or Virtual Machine?

Why would you ever want to run multiple operating systems on one computer? A computer / network technician may need access to many OSes, possibly all at once. But what would a regular user want with more then one OS? There are many reasons why someone may want to do this, the most common of which is that the user prefers Linux or Unix (Mac OS X) for the speed, security, and stability but occasionally need to run Windows specific programs. Now, you can run some apps under virtualization without W… Continue

Alex I need help!

Thanks for reading this post and hopefully helping me out. My problem is that I bought a new exhaust fan and when Im put it in my computer I wanted to put the old in a new spot to increase air flow... Not that big of a deal right? I did boot the computer with the new exhaust fan and it ran fine though I wanted more airflow. So when I was trying to find an appropriate spot for the old fan I took out my hard drive bay and set it down easily cause I know how sensitive they are. I could not find a s… Continue

Trevor Hall Booting Ubuntu on an iBook g4.

There has been a trend growing amongst many Pc and Mac users of installing Linux. Because of the fact that everything you can get for linux is free. And it is very interesting moving to a secondary Os or replacing your Primary OS. In my opinion, my favorite distribution of Linux is Ubuntu, It is based on Debian Linux and has a beautiful GUI. It is a very stable distribution of linux and has an ever-growing community of experienced users. I own alot of computers and my favorite ones are my lapto… Continue
